This is a stange find in VA

The picture makes it look gold but it is silver.Year 1897 Alfonso xiii UN peso. Thanks cddigger, I cant get my password to work so now im digggit

i can tell you is that ISLAS FILIPINAS means ISLAND OF THE PHILIPINES, ONE PESO and im only guessing but the bust must of the king of the philipines....just a guess on the last part.
 
Thanks for your reply. I went to the same area today and fond a king gorge th vi half penny from 1944.and a 1940 s merc. I haven't had a chance to take any photos sorry.

Thanks for the reply Roy, I thought the same thing till I fond some on A coin auction web site that are selling for about $130.00. It seems this coin was only issued for one year, and it was the last coin struck by Spain for the Philippines. SO I would love to-find 44 more!!!!!! Thanks again cddigger.
 
Well, Alfonso XIII would be Alfonso the 13th, who was king of Spain at that time. And the coat of arms is the spanish royal coat of arms. This is because the Philippines were a spanish colony when this coin was issued. Nice find either way.

The Philippine Islands.

I surmise that it was brought home by a US soldier when the Philippines was colonized by the US after the Spanish American War.
