This is a real MD question, sounds like a joke though.

I am the webmaster for my MD clubs website and I got this email from a guy who lost his gold watch where he lives. (it is about 10 miles south of me and near several members)

He wants to know if someone will come to his home and find it with a metal detector. So far no problem, we have members who would help in a heartbeat. So I emailed him for more info.

Turns out he was going on vacation and hid the watch IN his house and now can't remember where he put it.

Think of all the problems that will cause, all the plumbing, nails and wires. Not only that, what if he can't find something else after the searchers leave his house, will he accuse them of taking it?

Legitimate questions now:
What do you guys/gal think I should tell him?
Should we give it a try? or pass?
Any special hunting techniques for looking in an occupied house?

I would help him look if he were there but it could be easier without a detector. If he lost the watch he might have lost other things which could appear missing after a long vacation. This could be bad mojo for the detectorists.

A teacher where I work lost her NEW Wedding ring in her house and asked me to find it--Here is the problem--Those who ask you to find something in a house Don't have a Clue on how detectors work or they would not ask--I was ready to go in a HALF a heart beat TILL I found out where I was To Hunt--I explained how detectors work and GENTLY said NO and she still wanted me to look on the remote chance of finding it--She Still Had No Idea On How A Detector Worked---I NEVER went and I don't feel bad about it cause I (and you) know its impossible to find a ring in a house--I also would be afraid of being accused of taking something cause someone like that could believe your detector sucks up rings like a vacuum-------DAN SAY (NO) POLITELY and don't look back
