This is a long shot! Modification to my CTX 3030

Okay this is a long shot but heck you never know till you try. I've always thought why doesn't the CTX have something like the Sun ray pin pointer. It would be simple to make once you get the idea of how it's wired. Would anyone know how the coil is wired and the connector pin diagram? I might try to make a way to have a version of the sun ray on my ctx. Any help would be great! thanks

I think you may be out of luck.
The CTX coils contain a proprietary electronic circuit which would have to be duplicated in any switched in pinpointer.

MinelabMann,
Sorry to confirm that Yeasty is correct...

The coil contains extra proprietary electronics to move some of the analysis to the coil itself.
They (ML) are willing to license the technology to other coil makers, but it must be expensive.

You may have noticed the lack of CTX 'after market' accessory coils...while the E-TRAC and others have dozens.
That is why. :(

The sunray was SOOOO much better than any handheld. It is the only thing I truly miss from my E-trac. It let you hear the target through your headphones, so it wasnt everyone else in the neighborhood listening too. It also gave you full discrimination and ID of targets. When you have a god target and iron mixed in the hole, it lets you know which is which so you weren't digging a bunch of useless iron just to find which target in the hole was the good one. You also never had to worry about losing it or forgetting to bring it. You also never have to worry about batteries failing.

I agree with Jason that's from enid

I never had the Sunray so I can't miss it. But from what I have heard about them over the years I sure would love to have one for the CTX.
