This is a great forum, I learned two things here this week by reading posts....

I learned that the freq switch may alter the way the meter reads. I did not know that.

I learned that switching ironmask off may let me raise my sensitivity and add stability...

I don't remember who wrote these things. I bet it would be either Art or Rick... if so, thanks, if not sorry and who?

The GT was my first detector and will always have a place in my heart and in my arsenal. I also LOVE the new E-TRAC. My SE is now like the mop in the Swiffer commercials... it is sad.

The last time I used the GT was at an old farmhouse that is being remodelled. I was hunting the back yard and wasn't doning really well. I had used the SE and an F75. I had dug some clad.
I got out the GT and the first thing I dug was white gold with small diamonds, then a small silver pin. Two 1918 and one 1919 cents... In the same area I had been hunting. The GT just gave such a soild, steady tone and the same from two directions. It is rock solid and a real winner.

I appreciate learning more about it. I can't believe I didn't know these things.

I wish some of you guys who really know the Sovereign would write a primer with all the tricks and all the little things that you have learned about it. I think i know most of the tricks I know but it never hurts to hear it all again, to be reminded of things that getting into bad habits make one forget.

Thanks !!

That was Beachcomber who mentioned that he can kick the sensitivity up some with iron mask off in some situations.
Don't know how long the band switch/ meter thing has been known...possibly since the Elite.

No notebook from me. I only do short posts once in a while anymore. Some of my opinions do not follow mainstream thinking either, so i think it is a waste of time mentioning them.

I love your posts Art, you are a bit like me, i read all, try out and them make my own opinion, i suppose different things suit different people but all opinions are respected
All depends on where you detect and what woks for you

You have the right idea.
Some things work all the time. Some things work in particular situations only. Then there are the things that don't really work any of the time, but can fool you into thinking they do.
It don't matter where you read things. Don't matter what forum, website, or book you find information from....don't follow blindly like sheep. Check things out for yourself, and do it more than once in different locations and under different circumstances.
Make yourself a list of things you want to check out. May take some time before you hit just the right situation to check it. You will find that often to get the best results you will have to constantly think on your feet rather than using one standard set up. You get to have a sense of when to do different things.
And finally......
It should be a requirement for anyone new to the forum to read both the owner's manual and all of Rick's posts before asking any questions.

I enjoy his posts too, usually very detailled

I don't know you Art but in general mainstream thinking can sometimes be like lemmings jumping off a cliff. I like to hear other responses that are not mainstream. Many times they make more sense to me. Their usually the one that stops and says,"Why are we jumping off this cliff anyway?"
