The mark 1 is Very hot on nickels and sifts coins from trashy really well. A superb coin shooter. If you get the chance to buy one of these then don't miss your chance. The Depth is nothing fantastic but it is really good on trashy sites.

But the size, weight and ergonomics of this metal detector off set all the positive factors. My Teknetics Mark 1 had a very limited depth ability, another problem it uses 16 AA batteries. The Analog meter is great. The one I had was hip mounted, but it felt like a suitcase.

Hi ron , i actually prefer the bulky design as it is extremely strong and robust & made to last. The super long shaft gives a very wide sweep which i like a lot. Like you say the depth is nothing to write home about. In all metal the depth is reasonable though , i have noticed a lot of depth loss in discrim though. Still it does ok on certain sites where depth is not needed. I have fitted a whites dfx battery pack under the detector in place of the 16 internal battery's as the contacts all fell apart which is a really common fault with this detector. I paid nothing for the detector as it was dead when i got it. Like i say in trashy sites its one of the best i have ever used.

I used the Mark1 in one of my favorite city park that has lots of thrash and old coins.I did find find a lot of coins even a few wheat backs but it just didn't have the depth to reach those old silver coins.Compared with the CZ3D which I was using at the time it out classed the Mark 1 in every category. The old dated Teknetics unit was also reconditioned metal detector and in new condition. There's a point when a metal detector is too bulky and heavy and the Mark 1 is a uncomfortable clunky unit.I currently use a Sovereign with a straight shaft and is a great detector, but without this mod I would probably have to choose another unit.
