"This Girl Is On Fire"

Alicia Keys fans will recognize the song title, which is easier than recongnizing what I found today. I had a good quarter signal reading 8+ inches, first thing in the hole was a marble and then at the bottom was what looked like a silver disk that was blackened and had bumps on it. Felt like a silver quarter, right size, right weight but could not tell for sure. Turns out to be an 1892 Barber Quarter a Barber Quarter that went through a fire as Goes4ever quickly discerned. A Barber Quarter was on my wish list for this year since I had never dug one but when I was wishing I guess I made no requirements on the condition :surprised: however I will take it! Cleaned up some so here are before and after. The before was after I washed it in soap and water.

Cool find, but it stinks that it's in such bad shape. I'm still looking for one myself, I made need to lay down some conditions on my wish for one. I hope your second one is in awesome condition

Congratulations on your first Barber Quarter Tony! Even if it's a little toasted, still a nice find!

Yes, looks like it could have been burned - but a Barber's still a Barber - congrats !

Bell two look at my post toward the bottom of page 7 how I cleaned my Black 1893 Barber Quarter using 2 tablespoons of baking soda in boiling water for about 20 to 30 minutes after a coin dealer tried dipping it which didn't even faze it. I held it with a paper clip tied to a string. I would check it every 10 minutes to see its progress and the baking soda didn't hurt it . Jeff 63

Nice quarter. At least you can identify it and you aren't stuck wondering "what is it" forever.
