Well my normal huntin grounds are "sanded in", Really sanded in!! GH Knows!
So, I tried a whole new beach. This beach has not been kind to me in the past.
Of the four times that I've been there it yielded No Gold what-so-ever!! This time I was determined that it was going to be different.:detecting: Positive Attitude and All.

When I got there I could see that the waters edge was well sanded in and I received "0" hits on the Excal.
It was hard not to notice that there was a deep cut going right down the middle of the beach, the cut seemed to go on forever.
So, I quickly surveyed my options continue scanning the waters edge with no targets or try this cut...??? I went for the cut.....

After getting very few "hits", I was almost assured that it was going to be another bad day at this beach.:ranting:
But, once I started getting away from where all the crowds gather during the summer months, and probably the area that gets detected to death, I started getting signals.
Nickels Too, and they were deep, Real Deep!!!

Well, I thought - "at least the Excalibur is doing it's thing - If I don't find gold today it's not the fault of the detector".:minelab: Good Ole Excal:clapping:
I couldn't get over how deep everything was, I kept finding stuff at least a foot down if not close to two feet. The only thing shallow I found were pulltabs.
I finally gave up on a couple of targets, thinking that they couldn't possibly be gold but wondering if it was some huge silver chain or something.

After finding some deep lead and a quarter I felt that gold couldn't be far behind, I was right!
While scanning a cut that had a little more than a foot of water standing in the bottom of it I got a real deep low round tone,
You Excalibur users know the sound I'm talking about! Man it was good to hear that sound again!

It wasn't much 1.3 grams of 10k gold, but at least now I know that there is gold on this beach.
A friend of mine also detected the same cut, he was able to retrieve a very nice 14k gold ring weighing in at over 7 grams.
I guess I know where I'll be next week....

The other ring is stainless junk

Must have felt good beating the beach and getting something out of there. It seems like there were times when I would say,"Ahh, I'm tired, this is it after this swing" I say,"No! I am going to push it a little more" and I would usually get rewarded with something for my extra effort.

Being sanded in is no fun and sometimes your options look bleak. Sometimes hunting the dry sand is your only option which I dislike doing. I have a hard time maintaining a positive attitude when I'm hunting the dry sand because my coil looks so infinitesimally small when compared to the rest of the beach. I congratulate you on your persistence and maintaining that positive attitude. I'm curious though...what kind of cut was it that was going right through the middle of the beach? Was it a drainage ditch of some sort?
