This Excalibur stinks!!
This not at all what the dealer led me to believe! I was told that this machine would pay for itself after the first hunt. Well, let me tell you. At this rate it will take me at least two more hunts to even think about paying this machine off. I mean, what do those guys at Minelab think, that this metal detecting stuff is fun? This is hard work! I was out there in that hot sun for like, five hours, digging signal after signal. You wouldn't believe some of the tiny little objects I was scrounging around in that sand for. It's a good thing I have good vision or I would never have found some of those tiny little sinkers and other bits of broken metal, some no bigger than a gnat! And that's another thing, I must have dug up more than a dozen pieces of "lead". Well, the guy did say this machine could discriminate out "junk"; I think I will crank that discriminate knob up to max so I won't be bothered by all that darn lead next time.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much; I did find a few small pieces of gold. Nothing to write home about mind you. Three bands and another small girls ring, all were 14k. One was 7.5 grams, another 7.3 grams, one 6.0 grams and the smallest was a measly .6 grams. If you're doing the math, altogether they weighed a lousy 21.4 grams. Well, I saw a couple of guys on Youtube that pulled a "Pound" of gold out of the beach between the two of them. I think the dynamic duo's names were "Ron" from Chicago, and his sidekick "Mark". Do you know how long it's going to take me to reach a pound of gold at this rate!! What does Minelab expect me to do? Go metal detecting every weekend! Did I mention hits HOT out there! I wish I could go hunting in the winter, but everybody knows there's nothing to be found during the winter months, oh well, wishful thinking!
When I finally got home my wife told me I stunk to high heaven, and ordered me to go straight to the shower. And that's another thing, Sand Everywhere! All over me, my clothes, the car, and then I had to use the kitchen sink to clean all the sand out of the stuff I found! This is a nasty hobby, why in the world would somebody want to do this? "Fun" that salesman said, HA!
Yep, I'm getting rid of this Excalibur, I'll never find much gold with this thing. I met a fellow detectorist while I was out on the beach, after showing him my meager finds he suggested I might benefit from a good "quality" metal detector. So, I got it on good authority that this is not the machine to have. Luckily, I saw a bounty hunter on ebay "slightly used", I think I'll make a bid for that one.
