Third Trip Out with Tejon

Okay you guys, here is the picture. Halloween Day outside of Richmond, Virginia 72 degrees and sunny.

We hunted the extreme right flank of the Union position at Cold Harbor. The Battle of Bethesda Church. General Early and Heths Division going head to head with the Union 5th and 9th Corps.

0800 we pull up to our 50 plus acres of prime Virginia farm land that so much history has been noted. My friend unloads his White's MXT and I pull out my Tejon. With a second glance over to my Minelab Exploer II, I shut the truck door and grab my equipment and Tejon and head into the fields.

Not three minutes goes by and my friend yells minnie. I could not believe it! I was very happy for Eric because he just got started in CW relic hunting and until this day he had only one minnie to his name. By days end he would have 24 (total) three ringers, gardners, and enfields.

Again, I was put down by the White's MXT. This being the thrid time in a row that another detector bet me hands down. I found 16 minnies of all sorts, a couple of small brass buckles (haversack buckles?) and a few lead droppings. As he was nailing the singnal for minnies, I was never quite sure what I had under my loop. Several times I would call him over to get a different opinion or answer.

At days end, I was starting to feel more confident but to be honest I miss the differnet tone sounds that my Minelab and White's XLT give me. One thing is for sure....I dug a few iron pieces that were 14" to 18" deep and each time I thought for sure I had a shell due to the depth. Each time it was plow parts. The Tejon does like Iron and HOT ROCKS....I have never dug so many Hot Rocks! His MXT would discriminate them out but for some reason the Tejon picked them up and gave a very strong signal that was hard to walk away from.

Well, I am heading to a different farm on Sunday that is supposed to be better than the one we hunted on Halloween? I would love to find more brass, but I will not complain much about the minnies since we know for sure that it is CW!

My Tejon grade for this day C+. The weight is still my favorite and does boost the grade more with each hunt. 16 bullets in 5 hours or so is good, but could have been better since Eric found 24 in the same time, in the same field. Thanks for reading and HH

and give it time! I bet once you get it figured out(the Tejon), you'll do just as well as with the other detectors.

Best Wishes!

J.

I think he is carring some of those targets out with him!

Give the T some time, if this is only your third time out you still some confidence to build. Run your audio at 3 o'clock and pay attention to those iron targets. They have a crispness to the beep, are real "snap" that in time you will recognize. Good targets have a smooth beep, sounding real sweet. Keep your sensitivity as high as you can and be sure your machine is ground balanced properly and in no time you will be smoking your partner. Even so, you still did good.

Haven't gone head to head with a MXT against my Tejon...but I have against a DFX...Tejon won almost every time we hunted together.
