Third time's the charm. Coinage at the Colonial site!

Well, the site finally produced some coins. After finding a counterfeit Capped Bust dime last Thursday we both knew there had to be at least a few coins out there. Since then, there has been some friendly banter about who would be lucky enough to find a real one. This morning Chris was able to get out to the site for a few hours before he had to work. Pretty sure he is glad he braved the cold weather this morning. After finding a few flat buttons including one with a nice flower design on it, he got a nice signal and down at 7 inches and on it's side was a thin silver coin. His first thought was that it was a Merc but after pulling it out of the ground he saw the Bust and the year 1820 on the dime! A little while later he followed that coin up with a 1870 Shield nickel. He also pulled out a carved 3 ringer and a few other relics. He emailed me some quick pics and I thought I would post them. We can't wait to get back out there.

Not bad for a town thats "hunted out" im still geeked with that little haul. Its my forever story coin that people will be tired of hearing about. We'll see what else belches forth from the little honey hole. Wow.

Thanks a bunch bhp. We are both having a blast hunting this site and feel extremely privileged to have the chance to hunt such awesome untouched ground. I keep reminding myself to savor it all. Sites like these just do not come around very often.
What makes it even more special is that we know the name and some history of the family that lived in this 1790's log home. Hopefully, we can learn even more about them after additional research.
