Well I went back to XXX place where I found the 1781 and the 1797 silver reales?? There was some bulldozer work on the grounds where I had previously looked. I thought this would bring up some old coins. It did. I found a civil war button, a 1895 indian head and what looks like a 1779 reale. The area I searched was about 20 by 40 feet. Easy digging. I also got another signal in another area 00-28 well i dug down about 12 inches and nothing. The signal is still there and my digger wont dig any further. Will this machine really pick up coins that deep? I have a Ground Shark shovel on the way. If someone thinks you can use a screwdriver to dig up coins from this Explorer they must be crazy. Never have I found coins as deep as this. Where can I find info on Spanish reales? Thanks and HH

Mike, the key for me is the research. I have maps from the historical society 1864 and 1871. I look for old house sites, churches, schools, etc and then look on the current maps and try to match up the sites. Just found a old house site that was on the 1864 map. Only thing left is a stone chimmney. Its out in the woods in the middle on nowhere. These people didnt go to the bank when they needed money, its was hidden somewhere,. I hope they also lost a few coins around there. Old bottles are also worth something so I keep my eye out for them. See if your county has a history book, or a book about the old homes in your area. I have several sites to search where the old homes built in the early 1800's have been moved. Here is a good map site, http://historical.maptech.com HH
