Thinking seriously in becoming a Tesoro owner next week :detecting:

Topo

New member
Hi

I never gave tesoro detectors a try but I was always curious about then. I'm thinking in buying a Compadre, that I will be using as my secondary unit and if I like it I will think on a Vaquero or Lobo. Im interested in a simple, light, and portable machine to take everywhere. What do you think about this particular model? and how deep have you found targets with it?

cheers!

Hi Topo! I think no matter which Tesoro machine you decide on, you'll be pleased. First, where and what are you planning on hunting with this machine? That determines more than anything what machine you should be looking at. The Compadre is a great machine with multiple applications, and is capable of good depth 9"- 11" in the right soil conditions on a clad-coin. Give some more info on what you'll be looking for - and where. - Terry

Hi Terry! thanks for answering,
what you say is interesting for a so simple detector like the compadre, I've read a lot of good reviews about this machine, very hard to find someone talking bad things about it.
my case is that I have a mid range detector that I like very much, but sometimes I wish just having a more compact and lighter unit

Welcome Topo! You can not go wrong with a Tesoro. One of life's Simple pleasures indeed. I have friends with all the complicated ID units, programs, ETC....they spend more time trying to watch a meter and read and guess, is it a quarter? A Pulltab?. just dig it. I cover more ground quicker, and find more than they do. I use an old Amigo II, replaced by the Compadre. It is my main machine, and if the lot starts checking out good with targets, i use an Eldorado to go deeper. The service is unbeatable. I plan on a Compadre, because of the gold chain finds on a lot of posts here, and i do fresh water beachs a lot. One friend has a Compadre, and it is impressive. read some of the older posts here, the guys love the things. Kellyco has a great deal on them now. happy hunting

Topo, Tesoro builds a great detector and about any model you get is going to be a great machine. I don't own a Compadre yet, but do have a Silver

I heard of people selling more expensive machines to only use this little bug the compadre is, I confess I don't believe in that too much but we never know...

I own several Tesoros and they are what i use the most. Even with an E trac and V3i the tesoros are it. You spend to much time trying to figure a target out weather to dig or not with the high end machines. Nice yard of someones home yes Cortes, or any top end machine, you don't want to dig up every signal in someones yard the fewer digs the better. But just about anywhere else I dig most signals faster than looking at the screen figuring things out. Your soil will matter if you need manual ground balance or not. A preset ground balance works fine will i detect most of the time. In IL. But not out west cost so much. Either way great detectors. With a lifetime warranty.

Well they are light, love gold jewelry, well made, have audio variances not found in competitors once learned..Certainly not a depth demon but dial in the excellent service after the sale I would say go for it...

I just became a new owner myself, Cibola arrived last night! Thanks Richard at Backwoods. Can't wait to get out there with it.

good luck with your machine!

I think the performance would be the same due to the voltage limitation, but I'm curious, have you ever used rechargeable batteries with the compadre? what about consumption? do the batteries use to last long?

I run a Silver and get a solid 4 to 6 inches,,, I like the fact that I can put my 5.75 on and work the trash and get an extra 2 to 3 inches outta my 10x12,, I have wondered what I'm missing by not getting the Compadre but I feel confident in my Silver,,, if I missed a few small gold chains I will live with the advantage of changing coils,,, you can change coils on the Compadre if you put a new plug on it,,,l that may void our warranty but hey your only in it for 150 bucks,,,,, my bet says even if it did need service,,,, Tesoro would most likely fix it if it did'nt involve what you changed on the machine,,,, HH
