Thinking of trading down to MXT Pro from my VX3?

NO, they won't, different electronic platforms, different number of frequencies, different frequencies.

Probably not, the V series is the best White's has, but depth has more to do with the user and how well he knows the detector he is using than WHAT detector he is using, that is called the confidence factor. If you don't have confidence in what you are using, you will do better with a detector that you do have confidence in.

Well put Larry!

The MXT Pro is an excellent detector. I used to own a DFX as my first detector and was overwelmed and bought a Tesoro and now have a MXT. It has been many years since the DFX and I have learned a lot. Now, I am strongly considering the V3i as I think I can understand and handle adjustments for the most part. However, I plan on keeping the MXT as it is an excellent detector. So, pending on your experience level and as Larry said confidence level, the Pro is a good option. AMaybe the VX3 is deeper, I do not know, but the MXT is no slouch either.

I liked my MXT but one thing I do remember was the threshold the MXT had. The word people used was chatty. The threshold of the Spectras is sooooo smooth. Programs are not for everyone. The main idea is to use a detector you enjoy and are comfortable with.

I wish I could meet with people to get them over the hump in the learning. I bet you wouldn't be changing detectors.

I would n't sell the V to get a single frequency detector. I 'd rather get a loop of my liking spending less and have the three frequency to work anywhere I want.

[size=large]between my MXT Pro and my ATPro i sold the MXT. the reason. i couldn't notch out pull-tabs without losing gold rings. not that i had found any. but with the vx3 you can select one freq. can't you? then notch to your hearts content? I'm no pro. if put in a field with Larry and/ or Rob I'd be the one with less targets and finds. they both have the knowledge and experience i don't have. exactly Larry and Rob's point. after i get my V3i a fellow with coin master will hunt rings around me til i get the experience to program my machine or adjust the settings to my hunting. can't do that with the MXT. i liked mine. found my one and only Franklin half with no problem at 8". with the D2 just after i got it. it is a very simple machine. even i did well with it. but once again with Rob, Larry and John ya need to enjoy the machine. it does enjoy the best reputation I've seen as a relic hunter. hope ya settle on what makes you the happiest.

I would maybe look at it this way......Are you more comfortable with an "analog" type machine or are you ok with a "digital?. They do have their differences and more freqs should get you more depth...but its no guarantee. Somewhat the same machine except one has knobs and the other has buttons.

If you want to throw a nickel out on the ground...Turn a knob, .detect it and go.....maybe the mxt is you. IF you need or want more than that......of course the V3.

The basics of how a metal detector works has not changed in a very long time BUT the technology has.....and knowing how to harness that technology, is the key to finding older and better things.

Whatever your comfortable with is the only consideration you should have. (Just curious why you are "not" with the VX3?) Each of us are different and even though I am with the more avanced Whites machines, "I get" how using knobs can be good for some folks. The MXT is actually a digital machine with the knobs kept for users who like the simplicity of the "quick glance". Just under those knobs it's all digital with digital response coming at you.

We all need more info to help understand and direct you to the best choice......I'd think long and hard about giving up on a machine like the VX3. (As good as the MXT is...big downgrade in versatility.) Why?

Actually the MXT does notch out pull tabs.... in coin & jewelry mode you put the trigger in the forward position to do that.......

...............................HOWEVER....................................

You just keep notching out those nasty old pull tabs.... I love detecting behind guys that do that.......
