Thinking of selling my Sovereign XS. Any idea on a fair price?

Hi All,

My Sov has done me well over the years but I just don't need it anymore. I have an Excalibur for beach and water and I'm soon to buy a different land detector for hunting parks and ghost towns. The Sov will probably just end up on a shelf collecting dust.

The whole package is the Sovereign XS (including shaft and NiCad battery pack), Sunray DTI II meter, and two coils: 11" Coinsearch Coil and 8" Coinsearch coil.

What would be a fair asking price for that package?

Thanks.

There is a lot to take into consideration as far as what is a fair price. The XS is at least 10 years old as 1997 was the last year for them, but the XS has been a problem free detector. The Sun Ray meter are still the best meter for the Sovereigns and they are no longer being built, but still in demand. Now is it a early style meter or a latter one?? If it has a metal calibration control is is a later one and the better of the 2 different DTI 2, the early ones had a nylon calibration control and they seem to strip out. Battery if original could be getting weak too, but if it has been replaced will make a difference. Both the 8 and 11 coinsearch coils are in demand yet so that is a big plus if they are in good shape.
Now it all comes down to what shape it is in as it is a very nice set up. I had a XS with the DTI 2 (latter one) the 8 inch coinsearch coil and the S1 Sun Ray probe on it that had some small scratches, but over all decent and I believe I got $400 for it while I had the same set up plus a S 8 coil along with the 8 inch Coinsearch, but it had a lot of wear and was not taken care of much and I got $350 for it. I just sold a XS2a with the Sun Ray DTI2 and the S1 that was in very nice shape with the 8 inch BBS coil and got $400 for it plus a used Ace 250.
I feel if yours is in nice shape with the later DTI 2 and both coils it should be a fair price of $450-$475. Now if someone wants it without the 11 inch coil I would say $375-$400 is a fair price and sell the 11 inch separate for $100-$115.
This is what I feel would be a fair price if in good shape and you may get more or less too depending on who is looking for a XS as these were some great detectors.

The DTI II meter has the metal adjustment knob, not the nylon.

The battery is original but it still holds a full charge. I have taken good care of it by discharging it before recharging.

Both of the Coinsearch coils are in excellent shape and both have scuff covers.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,

By looks and by your description I have a DTI 2 meter, but it says
Windburn Avenger on it. Did Sun Ray make it? Also whoever had it
before had cut the battery wires and ran them thru the housing and
mounted the battery on the outside of the housing. I think I'll
put it back on the inside, its more of a nuisense on the outside
than it would be on the inside. The battery lasts forever anyway.

The Sun Ray and the Minelab meter used the battery of the detector control box for power and don't use a extra battery for the meter, but the DTI 3 of Sun Ray uses a battery for the back light. I was told that the first one made by Sun Ray may have had a battery in it, but never seen one myself since 1996 when I first started using a Sovereign.
