Thinking of buying a X1 probe...

Would someone please explain the pros and cons of the X1 probe. I have asked a number of people and no one can seem to explain why it is better that one of the other handheld probes. I am thinking of getting one for my XS but I would like to be an intelligent consumer instead of just randomly buying another "gadget" for my detector. Also, are there local dealers or can I simply order the upper rod and unit via the Sun Ray link? (I gotta have my toys FAST!)
Thank you in advance for your help.

Well ... first of all it has more depth capability ... approximately 3 inches vs about 1 inch for most standalone probes. This difference is pretty important with deep detectors like the Minelab multi-freq's.
Also it can be used in all the modes for the Explorer ... that is, in disc, iron mask, or pinpoint. The sound comes over the headphones of the detector versus a light , an external beep or vibration. In effect, it is like having a one inch coil and your main coil (of whatever size you make it) on the detector at the same time. So when you use it you can use the disc mode to reject targets you don't want to detect. Other probes are all metal.
Just some of the advantages ... HH ... Gord.

It is extremely convenient having it mounted on the explorer, it's right there handy for use with the flip of the switch. You won't ever forget to bring your probe along, and no extra batteries needed. Great depth and discrimination. If you find a target next to a piece of junk in the same hole, which the Explorer seems to be able to do a lot, then the X1 will be able to sniff out the good target and not the junk. Other pinpointers can't tell the difference between a coin, jewelry, bullet, or junk. The X1 can, as it is an extension of the Explorers capabilities. It will save you a lot of time searching for your finds.

Gord and Miles explained it well and you will find no probe that will come close to what the X1 will do. I think once you try it you too will feel you have never used a probe as good as the X1 and your time looking for the target will be cut down so you will find more good targets. the only down side is you cant let you buddies use it to find his target as it is fastened onto your Explorer.
If you have a local dealer see if he has a extra upper shaft to be sent in to SunRay for the probe, that way you wont be without your detector while waiting for the probe to be mounted.

I have a Vibrprobe 460 that I used all of last year and I loved it. In early March I had the opportunity to see the X-1 being tested by the Guvner and Darrell and let me say that I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough! It does everything stated in the earlier posts so I won't repeat it's capabilities. Oh yea, I gave the Vibraprobe away

I was wondering why Sonny at Sun Ray doesn't have the upper shafts with the probe allready attached and ready to ship? That way ya wouldn't have "down time" with your explorer. I am sure they have a reason.

the weight? The xs is fairly heavy (by my standards) How much more weight will the X1 add? Also (and more important) how much does it affect the balance?
I must admit you guys have me pretty sold! I do wish that I could see one before I bought it though. What about going to Las Vegas? It is only about 5 hours from where I live. Any suggestions?
Thanks again!

hi sj,
just got in from detecting and still cant believe how nice the x-1 probe works. used it in disc mode and also all metal and was rigth on every time. as far as weight goes you dont even know its on the explorer. like i said before i cant even think of any other probe that can match the x-1.

If you buy one and decide you do not like it,I would bet, since it is such a new product, that you could sell it on ebay for almost your total investment,If you did lose a little it would be worth the loss for you having first hand knowledge that it was not for you.I don't think from what everyone has been saying that it is very heavy or makes any difference in the balance of the explorer.
I bet you would keep it if you got it.I don't have one I just have a real good feeling about it's usefulness.
Hurry up and give me my money, tax man!

Gary,
The main reason is that Minelabs states in their contract that we cant sell Minelab detectors or any parts over the internet and the only place you can is from Kellyco. So if Ralph at Sunray ordered in extra upper shaft and mounted the probes on them and sold them over the internet it would be a violation on his contract with Minelab.
What I did was ordered in a couple of extra shaft and had the probes mounted for the people that come into my shop and if theirs were like new I just exchanged the shafts with them or sold them the complete setup if they ever have to send it the detector so there was no down time.
I also beleive the upper shaft are hard to come by right now as others are doing the same thing and have a extra upper shaft.
