Thinking about trying a different detector

I was just wondering if any of you that use the MXT regularly have tried a Fisher Edge or a Minelab Exterra 70? I have been doing a little reading on different models and narrowed my interest down to these two.

I am looking for something that is a little better at coin finding than the MXT, and would like to try out a different brand. If anyone has other suggestions, I would be interested as well.

You have a good unit in your MXT and several coils to use on it
The X-Terra is not made as well made as your MXT.
Also there is no small coil for it.
The X-Terra's have had some problems in the past.
I had all 3, the X-30,X-50, & the x-70 and got rid of them.
I can not say anything about the ID Edge but had a friend that tried 2 of them and the last one with the small coil, he liked the CZ better.
I tried a ID Excel and 2 Coin Strikes and like my M-6 better.

Are you using the small coil, like a 5.3 or 4x6 ?
I keep a 5.3 on my M-6 and it has been great..

I don't know which detector you are going to find that is better at finding coins than the MXT, but when you decide to get rid of your MXT let me know. I am always hunting for a good deal on a great coin machine, LOL. HH Dennis in Idaho

I know nothing about the Exterra 70, but I was reading about the Edge. Apparently there is a mode that nulls out all the high signals of clad, so you can concentrate on jewelry. I don't know if I like that idea, because I feel a clad quarter is something to dig while waiting on a gold ring.

There's something about the appearance of the Edge I just don't like. It may be the finest instrument in the world, but if you don't like the way it looks, what have you got?

I breifly kicked around the idea of getting an Explorer, but decided it wasn't for me. A good silver day would be 2 dimes for me, and I could cash in a good days clad and get the 2 silver dimes in a date I don't already have. Or better yet, save up many days clad and get a coil I don't already have!

I have a great setup in my MXT. I have all the Whites Eclipse coils except the large DD and the new 12". I also have a SunRay pinpointer which I have become dependent on! I got a set of the old Koss E-9000 headphones.

I have all but decided to try out an M6, so I can use all the coils. Sorry Dennis, I'll be keeping the MXT, or maybe trading it for yours, as yours already knows what a silver dollar looks like!

I love my M6. Get the 5.3 coil and its a hard one to beat on coins and small jewelry! So easy to use and yet strong enough to get some deeper targets.

>I saw a 1906 barber dime read as zink on 2 units, in and out of the ground. I don't like that idea on the Edge, but some might, sounds like you would loose silver.....
>The X-Terra does not have a small coil, all of there coils were to big for the places that I hunt...

I use the Uni Probe head phones and probe, I like them, but they are hot in the summer...
Hope this helps...HH...BJ
