I need more opinions about the machine before pulling the trigger on it thanks, Best of luck Hank.

Does it have a backlight for the screen and a vco pin point?

If Garrett put a threshold on it so it can better manually ground balanced; it would compete well with anything costing less than $1800. Just my opinion I am not a dealer.

AT Gold has threshold and Disc 1 mode on it looks to me to be AT Pro zero mode........maybe this is your magic bullet John & for only $679

Thanks for all the input, Best of Luck, Hank.

Hank, I was a Garrett hater for all of my 20 years detecting until I tried the AT Pro. If you buy one you will have to look at the name plate every now and then to make sure its a Garrett. I love mine. From water hunting to land its been a top preformer. Target ID is excellent, depth is excellent. I might notbe a Garrett lover but I`m an AT pro lover. I paid for 1/2 of the pro the first time in the water. I found 3 gold rings that day. They were not big fat rings either. 2 small thin rings and a mans gold band. Sold them for $300

It does have a VCO pin point, and you just cant go wrong with the ATP.
Contact Big Boys Hobbies, I have baught 2 from him.
1 older model and the newer model. There is a difference in sounds and GB but both work perfectly.
Tho the newer 1 does have LCD issues- minor ones- the machine still is solid, and in no way BBH's fault.
I have tried MXT Pro, XLT, And ML SE 2 . And ACE 250 And BH Tracker 4...
The ATP is in a class all its own.

Hank:

1) It has the standard mode, similar to an ACE 250 and is great for beginners, coin & jewellery hunting yet is deep and sensitive to gold.

2) It has the PRO mode, which is one of the deepest metal detectors (single frequency) available today. It was designed to find deep relics, yet with the 15kHz operating frequency, remains very sensitive to gold targets.

3) It is also water proof to 10 feet, so a quick accidental drop in the water or sudden rain will still keep you in the game. And, as a water machine, opens up a new style of detecting and territory in case you were ever interested without buying another water machine.

4) It's made in USA and costs less then half the price of some of the most expensive single frequency metal detectors which are restricted to land hunting only on non-rainy days.

Thanks to creek and Mr poptop and Mr John for all the valuable info. That's what I will get! Best of Luck Hank.
