Thinking about getting the 9x12 concentric coil

John Edmonton,

Is the 9x12 the better coil for clad hunting? I'm wanting to cover alot of ground yet not miss Canadian clad.

Hows it on reading clad though? There is a world of difference between the 8x11 and the 5x8 on clad for my machine. I seem to read clad alot better with the 8x11, except dimes, the 5x8 finds them more. Readings on quarters/loonies/toonies though with the 5x8 can be all over the place, the 8x11 finds them easier. More surface coverage perhaps?

Does the 9x12 read them easier?

I, too, have thought about picking up the 9x12 but wondered how much of an advantage it is over the 8x11. In other words, are the differences in depth and coverage enough to justify the investment? Would appreciate any further info on this.

Last year I called Garret Customer Service about the 9x12 for my ATPro here in the NW (Vancouver, Wa). There opinion was that the 9x12 concentric was not good for my highly mineralized soil. They discuss it in this link to their Searchcoil Tech Sheet http://www.deeptech-bg.com/round_coils/garrett.pdf
My ATP typically ground balances at 91-92 with the stock 8 1/2 x 11.

My soil here also GB's around 89-91...BUT I'm not wanting the concentric coil for huge depth, most clad here is 4-5" or less. I just want a large footprint coil that can pinpoint Canadian Clad coins with a clear signal.

I've noticed with my 8x11 DD coil that there seems to be at least 3 or more different sounding clad quarters, based on the years they were made. Not counting silver. 1970's quarters read different than 1980's, 90's and 2000+ quarters sound like garbage almost. The only way to tell is that slight chirp you get with a fuzzy medium tone and iron garbage mixed in.

Also loonies and toonies have several different readings. I've gotten loonies that read a solid 85 with a sweet ding, And others that sound high tones but with garbage mixed in.

Also maybe I shouldn't use Iron Audio when clad hunting, whats your thoughts on this?

Still waiting for John to answer the clad question.

Sorry John, I must have missed that. Thanks, I'll take that as the signals are cleaner than the DD coils.
