Thinking about getting a deeper detector

Back in the mid 1980's I was finding numerous Barbers, Indian and early wheat's, V-nickels etc. Several of these coins were at 6-7 inches back then. That was as deep as I could get. I got away from detecting for a few years and have been back detecting for about 3 years now. I have an AT Pro and an Omega. I love both machines but just can't seem to get those old coins like I used to. I feel these coins have slipped to that 8-9 inch range coupled with more trash creates this problem. I am hunting old house yards and finding 50 to 70 year old coins at the 6-7 inch depth but nothing beyond that. I have been reading a lot on the E-trac and F75 and feel they may be deeper. Any input on detector choices would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the old coins that I find are in that 6 to 7 inch range. But my Minelab Explorer will also find them at 8 to 10 inches if the soil conditions are right.

6" or 7" is deep, my hundred year old sites i find most of my coins less then that except in plowed fields. Trash is the big problem. I find i have to use a deep machine like my E-Trac or T2 with a small coil.

That AT Pro's strength is in heavy iron and such so use it in those areas and see how you do. For depth, the F75LTD or T2SE is an option if your ground isn't mineralized somewhat. Don't forget about any of the Minelabs in mineralized soil, including the Sovereign GT. It's a basic machine in terms of functions, but I'm digging deeper coins with it than ever. A few at 11", which is stunning in my soil where my other machines I've owned couldn't seem to break the 7.5" to roughly 8" barrier.

Old homes that have never been hunted will still produce..but like you said 20 plus years since you have detected will make a difference in some coins depth.. Also Sir , on several of the machines out..less sens will find deeper targets too. Unusable saturation will miss coins...coupled with bad GB, and minerals..

My Tejon is fairly new, but I have no problem finding a screw cap at twelve inches. I haven't found any coins at that depth, but again, I haven't hunted a lot with it yet. I have found some coins at 6+ inches. Great machine.

mike.....

look into blisstool, they can get a dime at 13" with a strong signal but will only disq nails and small foil , so you dig everything,

Use the 11" DD coil on the Omega and it will rival a standard T2/F75 for depth....and deeper than a AT Pro. Alot cheaper than buying a new detector.

I have the 11" DD on the Omega and it is a great machine. I was thinking a Etrac may find the silvers hidden by the trash that may be masking the coins.

Yes, the E-Trac is great for silver (dime's especially) in med/high mineralized soil. Probably the best machine when mineralization is moderate/high.
