Thinking about E-Trac

silver seeker

New member
I've never owned or used a minelab before. Back in the '80's - '90's I've only used white's models. Didn't get back into detecting till this spring, when I bought a mid-priced fisher model. I really like it, but I'd rather have it for a backup. I miss the audible threshold that my whites had. I'm thinking about an ET or an SE pro. I only coinshoot in the turf. Digging silver coins is my passion! I am so addicted to this. Been reading and watching a lot of videos on the ET, and I think this is the one for me. Or do you think the SE would do? Thanks, HH

The SE or Etrac are both very good coin shooters both go very deep. The etrac has a little quicker processor and actually works a little different but I like either one of them. You can't go wrong with either one.

Either one of them will work great for you. I use the E-Trac because it's one of the best silver coin machine available (IMHO).

The E-Trac is the silver hunters dream, just take a look at my sig below to see a list of what I have found this year in silver (3 or 4 silver items also found with the X-Terra 705).

Silver,
If its silver you seek you picker out 2 of the best! Give me a holler. I can go over both machines in great detail so you make best decision. Be sure to mention this forum for best deal!

Love to help you, Bart.

I can totally relate to what you are saying. I was detecting back in the 70's and 80's with only White's detectors. They are dependable and well built machines. I always ran my White's with that threshold humming on the edge and would find some old coins. Fast forward to now. I have tried most of the high end detectors in the last few years and the Minelab E-Trac has become one of my favorites. Day one, I thought boy is this a different animal with it's warble sounds. All the multitone sounds were truely different. The first day I went out with the E-Trac I used a small 6" coil and boy did I find the clad coins and even found some cheap jewelry. I slowly progressed to larger coils and to older and deeper coins. Take your time with an E-Trac and it will find the good stuff. Since the CTX has come out you can buy some used E-Trac's for a steal compared to what they were selling for. I used to swing the old White's detectors which were heavier and less balanced than the E-Trac's or Explorers so the ergonomics is not an issue for me. Fisher is probably is one of the best built detector for ergonomics. I use the F75 LTD for field hunting for it's light weight and boost mode. No detector can do everything but for all around coinshooting on turf the ET or the SE would be hard to beat for the dollars spent...

I got an E-Trac from Bart Big Boys Hobbies last spring after following this forum for the past 2 years. The wealth of information on this forum is what made me go with the E-Trac and it was the best decision I ever made. After learning everything on my owen this first season I would like to find a partner with more experience to help me to the next level,Deeper coins, I'm very satisfied with my progres thus far but I have lot to learn yet. Yes I have found silver in hunted out parks but have never had a chance at private property, I'm 40 miles west of St. Louis in St. Charles county if anyone wants to hunt Get one , you'll be glad you did. Jeff

I went from a 1984 Whites 6000 DiPro to an Etrac. It is a world of a difference. There was a steep learning curve for me, especially to hunt on sound rather than sight. But I would NEVER go back, I love my Etrac!

Thanks to all for your comments and info. From everything I've been reading on here and watching videos, I'm sure I would absolutely love the E. Looking forward to getting one, learning it, and becoming one with it. Thanks again, HH

I never used an SE but I love my E-Trac - just look at the great finds that are posted in this forum on a daily basis !

Good luck !

I love my etrac. I also used an old whites detector in the 80s. Found some interesting old coins. I got back into the hobby this year and bought an at pro. While this detector is fun to swing quickly and listen to a ton of tones in pro zero, I found I was digging a lot of clad (and some foil). that said it is an awesome detector to go anywhere and swing. I decided late this summer to get the etrac now that I have confirmed my new passion.

The etrac is a whole other experience and has only increased my interest in this hobby ten fold. I pulled more silver in two weeks just learning this detector than I did with the at pro all spring and summer.

I quickly learned the majority of tricks by watching videos and reading posts. Now when I go out.. if I don't get a silver, I am disappointed.

I don't pretend to be an expert at this hobby, but I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who caught the fever of digging out shinny stuff out of soil.

Doesn't really matter what you are after the ET will find it if with depth capabilities. But silver is its speciality i suppose.
I find that with the CTX too .
I think the ET is better than the Explorer but i like both, anyway the Explorer along with the Sovereign are being discontinued at the end of this year.
The CTX if you are wondering is no better than the ET and the ET is less of a struggle on the menu , am getting used to the CTX though.
Buy the ET.
