Thinking about coils

Hey there everyone! I am in the process of buying a new MXT Pro and I am trying to decide which coil to get. It comes with the 12" Spider but I am a huge fan of DD coils. I am trying to decide between the D2 or the Eclipse Deepscan DD 1400. I will eventually get a smaller DD as well. But what I would like to know is if any of you have had any experience with both of these coils and can offer some comparisons. Anything you can offer would be appreciated, they are both $250 each so I want to make the right decision here. Thanks!

Here goes, I have a MXT & have used the 12" didn't like it too big & to much trash. I use the 6x10 dd & love it, good depth easy to pin point & good in trash. I then go to the 4x6 shooter for the high trash areas & it works just like the 6x10 only not as much depth. I also have the 10" D2 it is better that the 12" but I don't use it & have been thinkinf of getting rid of it & try a 8" butterfly. Where I live there are no other whites users & it is hard to get to see different coils in use so I get as much info from the forum & go from there. I hope this helps & good luck. P.S. neither the D2 or the 12" had better depth than the 6x10 in the soil where I hunt.

I was not all that impressed with the DD1400, way too heavy for me and didn't notice any gain in depth, but I really liked the 6X10 for general hunting until the D2 came out and then went with it.

I'm with Larry on the DD 1400......not very impressive at all.WAY too heavy with lightweight performance.

Butterfly Coils are impressive! I have the 8x6 and can't believe the depth it gets for a small coil. Next I have a 10 inch excelerator coil and it goes as deep as I need. I used to have a 12 inch dd excelerator coil, and it was a bit heavy and was only good for wide open, less trashy areas.

Hello Todd,

I feel for your type of hunting (open areas beach etc) the D2 will better serve you, great coverage and good depth super neat coil for beach dry sand.

But if you get more into relic hunting the 6X10" DD will be the better coil, you live near many old mission era sites allot of history in your area. I perfer the 6"X10" DD, can hunt tight areas, demos, tot lots hunt up in the gold country for relics really a neat coil a little better separation over the D2. Maybe not as deep as the D2 but overall the 6"X10" DD coil is the coil for many MXT users.

Good choice getting the Whites MXT Pro, but like I mentioned above you're hitting large open areas so maybe the D2 is for you. Pass on the large coil, too big too heavy.

Almost forgot, make sure any coils you buy from here on out are V-rated. These work on the V3 as well as the MXT, better resale value incase you decide to sell the coils.

Take care,
Paul (Ca)
