Thinking about buying an AT Pro

New member
I was wanting to get some feed back about the Pro from people who use them. I currently hunt with the Mxt and have a Fisher GB as a back up. I"m selling the fisher and the AT Pro has caught my attention. How are they for relic hunting? Coin's, what kind of depth? And I'm looking forward to trying some water hunting. How are they in heavy iron? I appreciate any answer's you guys can give me on this machine. Thanks. Pat

My main detector WAS my MXT, but now this AT PRO is, it's unreal in iron infested area. Very sens. to small gold chains, but a little unstable( have to turn down sens and it's good). I relic hunt with it and I also have the AT GOLD. found these 2 weeks ago and the Three cent piece last weekend. All the targets were near iron targets. These pictures(finds) speak for the AT PRO!!

Hi Pat, I just sold my MXT Pro to get an AT Pro and, although I had a lot of second thoughts at first, I don't regret it one bit now that I got the Garrett. I've been a Whites fan for years and my MXT had payed for itself so I didn't take selling it lightly, but after spending an afternoon doing air tests on the AT Pro I knew I did the right thing.

I'll PM you a link you should read...
Joe

The AT Pro is one heck of a machine, plus it's water proof.

The AT pro is "deadly" in relic hunting as that's all I have done since I bought mine about 6 months ago. The AT Pro is probably one of the most user friendly metal detector out their. Not as heavy as the MXT and has the latest updates for metal detecting which makes it lighter and faster.

No knobs to worry about either. Don't get me wrong pat, the MXT Pro is a "very" capable machine, it's just the AT Pro has that Raw (fast) performance to accomplish what the MXt can do in half the time (plus a bit more depth with the At).

Just my 2 cents as I have used both as well.:)

Just got mine Last week ... I have had them all .. AT pro is an outstanding detector .and deep . don't hesitate to buy one .

The AT-Pro was designed to be used in heavy iron and does very well. Lot of fun too!!

Toadwisperer, Can you PM me a read on the AT-Pro also!!!! The Aqaman is cool!!! Nice Digs Looks Like you went prety Deep??
Mickfin,

It a powerful machine with a lot of info, and it's h2o proof !

Thanks for all the great info. I'm really looking forward to getting one of these machines. I have a few more questions. Is there a difference between the pro and the gold model? And if I buy a used one I have heard about the updates, what is that about?

- AT Pro is 15 kHz, AT Gold is 18 kHz
- ATG has true all metal mode and an adjustable threshold, ATP has neither
- ATP has adjustable notch discrimination, ATG has preset notch discrimination
- ATP is (questionably) suitable for saltwater
- ATG has "ground balance window". As I understand it, it allows you some latitude with inconsistent soil mineralization within the area your hunting. Someone else may have a better explanation for this feature.

If you intend to mostly relic, coin or beach hunt then the AT Pro would be my first choice, if you plan on mostly nugget hunting then I'd pick the AT Gold. There seems to be enough crossover ability between the two that your not really giving anything up, ones just a little better suited for certain tasks than the other.

Thanks Joe. I liked all the info I got from you. I have a guy interested in my GB so maybe I can get it sold in the next week and start seriously looking to buy. Once I find one I'm sure I will be posting some finds on here. Thanks Again. Pat

I have had an MXT for 2 years, and it has paid for its self at least twice.

I purchased an AT Pro a year ago, and the MXT is hanging in the garage.

The pro seems to be a clad magnet.

In my area there are not as many old coins is in the south and Midwest.

Both are great Machines, but the price point is definately the deal breaker.

I wii never sell either machine.

Toadwhisperer/Joe, would you mind forwarding me that information as well too please? I think I see an AT Pro on my horizon, much appreciated:detecting:

Hey Bart!
I'm ready too but still pondering due to the reason I want good depth
At the beach and at the parks
Would the Technetics g2 or Omega be better in the salt sand
Hoping to find those lost Bling Bling's!
