Thinking about another mod for the Cibola

Ive been doing the ground balance mods on the Cibolas for a couple of years now..But Ive got another idea I've been thinking of .How about a dual threshold .have one for the disc side turned up to super tune specs. you could use a micro pot inside ( like the coin check feature on the shadow x2) then the all metal side would use the one on the face plate..Just got to get the pinpoint switch that I use on the bottom of the handle wired up right.no more super tuning then turning it back down to hunt all metal! Just got a get my cibola apart and study up on how to get the switch right. might take a different configuration switch with center position being all metal instead of disc ..

Might Just be able to pull it off.

any thoughts

Sounds possible Keith, just a little closer to a mini-Tejon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What if you use a fixed resistor of a value equal to the resistance with the threshold pot set to it's maximum setting? So you run super-tuned when switched to discriminate mode and have the full adjust range for all-metal.

I've found that I can turn the sensitivity down just a smidge for stability in super-tuned and, when in all-metal, the threshold setting may vary a bit depending on the ground I'm over.

Personally, I did the ground balance mod but am not so sure I'd do this one. When I run super-tuned the discriminator doesn't seem to do a very good job with iron and I like the excellent discrimination when not running super-tuned.

Or ... there is still room on the front panel for another small pot ... upper right where the Vaquero has one ... flip from discriminate using one threshold pot to all-metal using another.

that the disc starts to act alot like a 1266 detector real noisy and digs alot of iron. The way I like to set mine up in iron is set the disc on zero and start hunting and turn up the thresh till i start digging iffy hits on nail's especially the bent nails then I leave it set right there.the extra little bleed through you get when adding some thresh in disc lets the targets close to and around the nails bleed through a smidge better, and in a pounded site that means everything to get just a few more nibblets .

So you are right about over loading with the thresh but i would like to have it set in disc to blip on those bent nails and just leave it there and for the all metal hunting which is a mode I love to use I can have it set to where i need it.

I can see your point though it wouldnt be a mod for everyone just a select few that or obsessed with unmasking..

Thanks for the input Bud!

Keith,
I will have to take some small bent nails and try it. If I can make out the saturation point, I will mark the front panel and start hunting more with this mild super-tuning to the saturation point.
Thanks for the tip!!
