Thinking about an AT Pro

Looking to get a medium priced detector next month. Right now it's between a Teknetics Omega 8000 and an AT Pro.

Any suggestions?

AT's are water proof. Hunt in the rain, snow, fog and down to 10 feet in the water. It's like buying 2 detectors for the price of one. Also,Garrett has been known to give excellent customer service.

John, I have both the Omega and the A T Pro. For old coin hunting, the A T Pro is my go to detector....and it turned out to be when I also had the F 75 LTD. I don't know what bothers you about the 11" DD coil, because to be quite honest, to get maximum depth with the Omega you would want its 11" DD coil. The 10" concentric just can't achieve the necessary depth, at least for me, that I need for getting those old deepies. Although my version of the Omega is less emi prone then the first one I had a few years ago, it is still far from ideal on many urban sites. The Omega is a nice light detector and is easy to set up and run. But, I am an old man and can swing the A T all day and find it as easy to set up and hunt with. The A T Pro has a great tid even at depth and absolutely loves silver. But, these are two strong characteristics of the Omega, too. Although I don't enjoy hunting in the rain all that often, it is nice to know I don't have to worry about getting the A T wet when caught out in a heavy shower. Anyway, good luck with your decision. I would have to give a slight edge to the A T. I say "have to" as I've dug 9" deep quarters and 1 half at 9" with the A T, but never a coin of any size that deep with the Omega. And that is using the 11" coil on each. The Omega does have a true all metal mode, where as the A T does not. I seldom hunt in all metal, but you would get a bit more depth in that mode on the Omega. Why don't you contact some of the vendors on this forum. They were running a spring/summer package deal on the Pro, 2 coils in the package. They might still have some left. I got mine from Big Boys Hobbies.

I almost see it as buying three detectors in one John. I believe that you called the ATP the super charged ACE 250 once. Indeed it is that and more. So, when I started out using my AT Pro I set it in STD (standard) mode, as I was used to the same sounds from my old ACE. Then later on when I started to get a feel for the machine I switched over to Pro mode. So now I recommend new folks to just buy an ATP and use it the same way progressively. It was great to have one machine enhance its abilities with a few button clicks, when I was ready. Then there is that water thing. I don't detect water but I have used the machine in the rain, which means that I can detect basically any time I want during the season, which is great when time is limited.

Get the AT PRO and forget about the rest. The AT PRO is as good or better than those expensive detectors. Just take some time to learn the VDI's and tone. Almost forgot to mention get the 5x8 coil along with it too.

AT Pro its an excellent md.And with the 5x8 coil it hunts beautiful in trashy areas.I have had mine four months and couldn't be happier.

I bought my AT Pro for Christmas last year. Then I started hearing all about the 5 x 8 coil. I got one, put it on the Love it.
When it gets too hot to detect on the land I find a local swimming area and go detecting in there with a long handled sand scoop. Works in the water and helps me stay cool. You would be surprised at what people leave in the water.
