Thinking about a Xterra 705 NEEDING ADVICE

Should I give it a try, and if so what are the best coils to have for all of my needs, I coin/jewelry and relic hunt. Is this a good choice of machine or is there something better in the same price range.

I've only been detecting for 37 years. But in my opinion, the X-Terra is the best value out there today. And I've tried about all of them! It is the most versatile, well built detector available. Of course I've been saying that about the X-Terra 70 since they were introduced. Now that they have been replaced by the 705, offering more features and functionality at the same price, it is an even better value. I'm sure if you ask this same question on other forums, you'll get differing opinions. But I'd put my X-70 or my 705 up against anything out there, and walk away with my "goodie pouch" filled and my head held high!!! I like the 6-inch DD for coinhunting trashy areas. And I like the 9-inch concentric at 3-kHz for open fields. It will come with the stock 9-inch at 7.5 kHz which will serve you well until you make up your mind which accessory coil(s) you may need. If you are not thinking about Prospecting, you might consider the X-Terra 505. Less expensive and uses the same VFLEX technology and all three coil frequencies. Use the money you save to buy one of those coils! You can view the comparison charts above, to see if it offers what you might be looking for. HH Randy

Listen to what Digger says. You probably won't find any posts around here about finding a dime at 15" or 18". What you will find, I think, are honest posts about a darn good detector with a ton of versatility.

I absolutely love mine, have been hunting with it a LOT since august 08, I hunt every weekend with my partner who uses a whites DFX and I tell ya what there is nothing his DFX can find my x-70 can't. I amaze him all the time when my $700 machine goes head to head with his DFX. I know it goes deep, I have found coins in the 8" range several times and my deepest was a measured 9" on a seated dime. I almost gave up but kept going down. My digger has inch measurements on it so I know how deep it actually was. I upgraded from an ace250 so to find a coin at 9" I was a true believer.
I think a lot of stories you read on forums are like fish stories about how deep finds are. It seems like most coins are still in the 5-7" range. And with the x-70 you WILL get em!

Before I got my x-70 I set up a coin test garden in my yard, I have a wheat, a silver dime and a clad quarter all buried at 8" and it can pick up all 3 of them with the stock coil
