Hello all, I currently am using a Cibola And was thinking of upgrading ??? to a Tejon I mostly hunt for coins at old home site that are now farm fields and a occasional lot or 2 in town. I love the Cibola simple to use and great depth ( don't no why I want to upgrade ) . Do you folks think the Tejon will perform better Than what I have now? I dont want to get into the bells and whistle thing again. I sold my V3i because of that . learned my lesson. Thanks !
lumacurve, I hunt with a Vaquero and a Tejon and owned a Cibola a few years ago.
I like the Vaquero lots more than the Cibola, manual ground balance being the biggest factor.
I just got my Tejon and haven't got a lot of hunting time with it yet, but can tell you it is a deep powerful detector.
I think you would see a huge difference in performance over your Cibola.....HH
Don't know your mineralization in your area-so I don't know how the g/b would factor in. Might want to read the article at "Gary's detecting" as the Tejon hit harder on deep targets, but the Cibola also hit them with a soft tone-and supertuning the Cibola made a huge change. If you would send me the Cibola, I definitely think you should get the Tejon.
I have not used the Cibola, but have heard good things. I had a Vaquero and sold it. It was a good detector, but I love my Tejon. I made the mistake and sold a Tejon for the bells and whistles and could not get it out of my head and now I own another Tejon, never to be without one again.
The depth is superb, you can adjust the tone that you hear, which I like the higher tone which helps to distinguish the iron better for me. The dual discriminators is a huge asset as well and the manual ground balance is easy after a little practice. I cannot say enough about the Tejon!
I'm not into bells and whistles either. I first started out with a vaquero, loved it, however it was stolen from me. Then I got wrapped up in the hype and went for the Fisher F75, which sounded great on paper. Took it out a few times and I immediately knew it wasn't for me, and how I missed the vaquero dearly. I just wasn't having any fun with the F75, it was far too chatty for me.
I promptly traded the F75 in for a brand new Tejon and never looked back. It's very similar to the vaquero with the added bonus of trigger pinpointing and dual disc! Absolutely love it. I would highly recommend it, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the least.
How is the Tejon as a an all-around, general purpose detector? I'm just getting into MDing and have had my Compadre for a month and a half and have been bitten by the upgrade bug. I'm into a little of everything as far as the hobby goes -- coins, jewelry, relics. Would the Tejon with stock coil be passable at these things? Keeping in mind that I'm keeping the Compadre for the kids/loaner/tot-lot machine.
