THINKING ABOUT A SOVEREIGN GT?

Hello all, Ive been thinking about getting a sovereign gt. I currently use a mxt and will keep it. Ive been wanting to try a non display unit but not sure which one. tesoro maybe? those of you that use the gt what are your thoughts and why did you choose the gt over so many other units? how difficult is it to use the pin point on the gt? I see the switch on the face but it would seem awkward to use it compared to my mxt where that switch is located. Any info will help. Another thing, I see allot of discussion from most that they use it for the beach, since I live in Ohio it would not see to much of a beach, 99.9% inland! Hows it do for non beach hunting?

Mine is used 100% for land use as I too am not close to any beaches.
I also have a MXT my wife uses and it is a great detector and my favorite Whites I have used. The MXT is faster and can get more coins in a hour with it than my GT, but these are the newer cons while the GT will get the older deeper coins. Now the GT to me is for those that are serious about detecting as you have to go slow so it can see everything in the ground and give you the info so you decide if you want to dig or not. This is one of the very few that will with the tones and the ID on the meter as it has digital numbers of the target it sees, most like the MXT the detector decides if it is something you want to check out with a beep. The Sovereign does have a learning curve as you have to learn its tones and how they react too and try to wiggle the coil only over just the target are only to help ID and to get the tones to go as high as they can and yet repeatable.
The Sovereign is a bit heavy too, don't like iron or don't air test good, but that is OK as most of the finds we find are in the ground not in the air. For the best depth you have to go much much slower with the Sovereign so you can hear those very weak and deep signal. The Sovereign is one of the best on the market and see it get many good targets at those well worked areas many have given up on. I have used many detectors in my 35 years of detecting and very few if any have impressed me as much as the Sovereign has with the GT the best of the Sovereigns.

Sovs work good for dirt hunting. It is intended for dirt hunting in the first place........not waterproof like the Xcal (which is really the same detector).
It does work better if you use a meter.
What part of Ohio you in? I'm in nw area. Dirt is red/yellow clay.

Destined to be a classic statement..........

Here is pics of some of the gold my GT has found for me. Also a deeply encrusted Walking Liberty half dollar..and some old coins

I hunt the Ct. shorline with a GT 10" tornado coil.

I like to hunt at low tide in the muddy ocean floor...low and slow gets the treasures with my GT. But it works equally well in wet and dry sand.

The Gt is terrific at picking up those really faint tones deep...this detector goes really deep.

I have no problem pinpointing using the + method.

It's tones are clear...but initially it took me several times out detecting to get used to the various tones, but I have them down pretty good now.

Excellent and accurate on gold tones , nickels, and silver

I use a Sov Elite as backup
