But would welcome advice I will only be hunting at the beaches never in land I hope to find big rings at depths of 12 inchs plus. There will be a lot of hot rocks and high iron levels with this in mind will the cz 21 fill my needs many thanks

I tell you one thing my cz-21 love hot rocks... I cant stand digging them but it happens. For one I know it does good on mid size gold and up but small god the excal does 100% better imo. Me and my uncle did the test I used my 21 and he used his his excal I have a 1-2gram gold kids ring or toe ring 10k and I couldnt hit it 4 inches in wet sand. excal hit it if I remember correct about 10 inches before losing it. I tried full sens, all metal everything and nothing. BUT in dry sand I hit it at over 15 inches and the excal couldnt hit it at all. As far as Iron I never run into that problem on my beaches and the spots where there are Iron I just dont hunt them because it overwelms the cz-21 you can set disc on 1,2 but you still have a chance of digging that iron that sounds like a coin or hits mids. GL HH

The Excal will be much quieter on iron, but it can cost you. You can miss adjacent targets because of the recovery delay inherent in the Excal iron null. I love the Excal when I'm away from iron but when it is present, the CZ21 picks up the adjacent goodies in 0 Disc that the Excal doesn't see. The CZ21 finds more goodies in iron than the Excal. Iron is the Achilles' Heel of the Excal, IMHO.

The Excal is better on hot rocks than the CZ21. If there isn't a lot of iron present but lots of hot rocks, you'll have an easier time with the Excal. In my area, there is a lot of iron so I really have no choice but to use my CZ21.

You've been very helpful you seem to have a great depth of knowledge about metal detecting and conditions they work in. Thankyou

There are 2 ways in which you can try to deal with hot rocks.

1 - If running in discriminate mode, and hitting lots of them with a high tone or mid tone, you can switch over to auto-tune ( all metal). The target signature will be a lot less strong, and in some cases go away completely. Checking hot rocks this way can save you a lot of time digging them, but it also takes a bit of time to switch back and forth.

2 - You can try to ground balance them out. Get one or two and actually bob the coil up and down over them as you perform the ground balance operation. It may help, but when doing this, I suggest you get a few targets that are good ( ie, nickels, dimes, quarters) and may sure the unit still picks them up.

It all depends on what type of targets you are looking for. If you are hunting for gold jewelry, and the hot rocks hit as high tone, then just dig the mid tones. 85% of gold rings hit as mid tone per tests done in the past by several well known CZ users. If you are coin hunting, it's going to be a pain in the butt if they hit as high tone.

As far as iron goes, and hunting with an Excal vz CZ, I agree with the others that the CZ is better in the sense that you can hear the iron. That is my opinion, and I am biased towards CZ's since they are my main untis for the past 20+ years. I have used Excals in the past too, and like them...just partial to CZ's.

When hunting with an Excal in iron laden areas, you HAVE to circle the target and sweep at a lot of different angles when the Excal nulls over iron. And you have to sweep slow. The Excal can sniff out targets in iron, an Excal users with experience know that when the unit nulls, they have to still slow down and investigate if they want to try to get a target hiding amoung the iron.

I use my CZ's always in discriminate mode 0 all the time..regardless of if there is a lot of iron of none at all. I want to hear all targets, and running in 0 also eliminates getting fooled by iron wrap.

...ooops
