Things i have learned

Well sense i was asked to post some of the things i have learned so far here it is. (i have put in about 30-40 hours in the last 2 or so weeks i have had the C$ )
Well....Something i have figured out.. And i may be totaly off here. Is this.
If you have a signal that holds steady between 25 to 30 usualy it is a penny. If it holds at 31-33 it is a dime and from 34-35 it is a quarter.
Now, If you have a signaly bouncing all over the place it can be just about anything. But if the average of your sweeps is a certain number (lets say you are getting +20 +10 +30 +30 +20 +30 Notice that +30 came up the most. So Usualy it will be the +30 or in my case a penny.(usualy)
Note.. The wolf head ring i found today read as a +32 and i have had the opertunity to scan some gold rings (2 of them a 18k and a 24k) the 18k ring read at a 14-15 (pulltab range) and the 24k read at 16-19
It was interesting that with gold rings the signal did stay somewhat steady but it did bounce around 2-3 numbers But no huge number bouncing.
Thing i have a problem with is patiance i guess. I get tired diggin pulltabs and foil realy fast so after about 45min of digging everything i get really selective on what i dig. Usualy after i get tired <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> il only dig repeatable signals that are +29 or more and less the +55
Yea i know im loosing a lot of targets but.. There are so many damn targets in my parks that if i was to dig everything it would take forever and it would make the grass look like the moon regardless of how carefull you are with your plugs.
(beaches) my area is a nightmare i guess.. Lots of black sand.
But i have been told that my finds on the beach is pretty good (i average about 1-2$ clad each trip for about 1 1-2 to 2 hours hunt)
I am still trying to learn how to be proficiant with beach hunting, Im still at a loss why one days settings work great and the next with the same settings it goes crazy on me.. (bateries ? Solor flares? rain?(making the sand wet) electrical interferance?) From what i have heard and read all of the above can adversly effect the C$.
Well beach hunting is or was a big attraction for me getting the C$ but i am getting quite disalusioned with the results of my hunts. lol the junk ring i found was found there. So i know it will find rings and clad.. But it seems like you have to mess with the settings everytime i go.
Sorry this was so long .. Hope this helps some people out and if you see anything you can help me out with please do.

Thanks for posting your lessons learned post. I need all the help I can get.
Happy CoinStriking.

unless I take off the coil cover when hunting at the beach, the black sand will drive me nuts. It gets trapped between the coil & cover and stays there. I think this is why your settings change from one day to the next and the C$ gets jumpy on you. If you think about it, its usually the second day you start having problems with the settings or later on that same day. But when you first use it on the beach it works great for awhile.
Plus when you get around black sand, turn off the salt mode & averaging modes, and flip on the tracking. Also Ground balance in both dry & wet sand as you hunt them. Also run lower threshold like -40 while in the wet sand also lower sensativity like 3 or even 2 in order to stablize the C$.
But to me the best beach machine that I have used is either the CZ5 or CZ70. But the C$ will hold its own as well.
Good luck,
Mike

lol i dont have a cover.. I usualy have my sense at 2-3 and thresh about 45-50
so whatever is goin on isnt those things. Thanks anyways

I've done some hunting in black sand at the beach here in NC. I thought the CS$ did as good as any machine I've tried in it. I ran threshold down around -35 and sens. at 5. I ground ballanced in the black sand in all metal mode so I could bob the coil up and down to be sure it was right. [SOMETIMES I had to reground ballance several times in a row] Also I had to have salt mode off to get it ground ballanced right. Tracking on after ground ballancing also helped because the thickness of the black sand changed a lot. I got depth as good as my Mine Labs and better than my CZ-5 in that stuff.
