I was invited to hunt a very old school in a bad neighborhood. It's the local Boys and Girls Club now. Got there to find the fellow club member on the south end of the sports fields and joined him. After about 30 minutes and little to show for it I asked about the other end of the field. He told me a Friend and he had hunted that end years ago and didn't find much. He didn't think there was anything there. BUT, I saw something that caught my eye. Dirt had been added to the soccer field about 10 yards from the street and the sidewalk had been replaced. This left a low spot between the two about 10 yards wide and 100 yards long. I headed over to test it and a short time into it I dug the picture ed 1928 Quarter. It was 8 inches deep, 2 of those at the bottom packed gravel. Got a strong 87/88 on the vdi. A short time and short distance away I dug the pictured wheat Penney at 4 inches. Good 81/82 on the vdi. The ground balance at 55. The Penney is such bad shape and was so corroded it took mean an hour to clean it enough to see it was a wheat and the date destroyed.

Nice quarter that's a pretty old one. Here in Cali I find old mercs and wheats and Rosie's . But no old quarters yet . Buffaloes are real hard to find here as we'll
Congrats cool find.

I like this post, Grumpy...you provided some great advice on paying attention and how much of the success of this sport relates to thinking about where you are and what the ground conditions look like.:clapping:

I always try to help others. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Called my hunting buddy over. He found 4 wheat's and some clad. He said "You know what they call this? Bottom Feeding". I told him, "Not if you are invited!"

That's using your head and eyes, grumpy, and it bought you a nice old silver!

Great observation on your part .. and a nice old SLQ !!

Does your AT Pro auto ground balance to 55, or did you manually set it there ? I can't get mine to go under 85 on it's own ..

I'm still learning. Hence all the questions I ask here.

Trying water hunting, but not finding much. Trying to study how the surf, currents and such move and change the beach. Discovered that the mouth of a nearby river I want to hunt is over 3000 feet further out into the gulf since 1944.
