Well I guess they are right... but it sure was close. I went to the same lot today that gave up the 1922 penny. I dug five more wheats and my heart skipped a beat when I dug another 1922. Unfortunately, once I cleaned the dirt off, it appears to be a 1922 D (possibly weak D). This lot has been good to me in terms of wheats but not in silver. I guess the silver got hauled off when they scraped the top 5 inches off.

Three hunt total:
1915D, 1916, 1917, 1918D, 1919, 2- 1920, 1922, 1922D, 2- 1926, 2 - 1928, 1936D, 1944, 1950, 1956D, 1953 Rosie, State of OK tax token. (my hunting partners took home 8 more wheats)

I also found a nice Annual State Fair Badge (unknown date)

Bluesman,Great job of finding all that copper, but their should be some silver somewhere.Do you go back over the areas you already hunt.If I got a short time to hunt I go to places I hunt all the time and still come up with a few coins.Good luck,

Crowduck,

Yes. This lot is not real big so I covered first with my X-8 coil. I then when back over it with the X-5 coil and finally with the stock coil. I usually run in Conductive but switched to Ferrous with the stock coil and nabbed a few wheats that I had missed.

And of course, my hunting partners where covering the area pretty good as well. I'm sure there is still some coins as you can never really clean a place out, but it is going to take some time to find them with all the rusty nails that are all over the place.

Congrat's on the 1922-d Wheat Penny! The State Fair Badge is neat and I am sure it might be worth a few bucks if it is all there. It sure would have been nice to have a date on it but it still is a Great looking piece! Hope there is at least a few more good finds on another return trip if you are going back that is. Good Luck and HH.

As I was scrolling down all I could think of was the Medal I found.
But now that I posted mine I see there not the same configuration.

NH Bob,

Mine has "Schwaab S&S Co., Milwaukee" stamped on the back of it. Does yours have anything on the back? I'm assuming this stands for Schwaab Stamp and Seal Company. Apparently, they are still in business (http://www.schwaab.com/aboutschwaab_history.html) so I thought I might contact them and see if they can help identify it.

People in southern Illinois back in the late 1800s didnt have money they traded labor or chicken for stuff they needed,so old money is hard to find.Good luck,
crowduck
