These are from down at the Mystic Seaport. They have a rope making shop there and do it like it was done way back when. A lot of work sure went into these old sailing ships.

do they still use Hemp? I wonder what the old "Baler twine" was made of, same stuff?
 
in the boy scouts. We used a homemade winder and whatever string we could come up with!

what are those called?looks like the smaller one is made of wood,ant the larger of a metal.is it part of a ships rigging or some sort of block and tackle.bet that old buildind has a lot of tales.i think the slaves in egypt might have liked a rope making set up like that:).
