These Classics never fail!!!

My wife and I don't get out much but this last weekend we were able to get out on a group outing where there was many good finds. Barber quarter, 1916s merc., Indian heads, tokens, hotel key tag, and lots of other miscellaneous neat "junk". Unfortunately we didn't find ALL the good things but we sure brought home our share. We were both using Classics all weekend. She was using the Classic ID while I was using the Classic IDX Pro modified by Mr. Crabtree.

The is the one and only complete bottle I have found. Got a signal only to find a bunch of rusty !!!!, broken glass... then this!

My wife got these out of a single hole. Good job!

It's ugly, but it's a rare one:

Another "only one known":

This only isn't quite as rare, but it's my first bit token. Rather an exciting one for me:

I'll probably update this thread with more pictures of some neat stuff we found as well as scans of the coins above once they're all cleaned up. That could be weeks yet but I thought I'd get these up for now
Hope you all enjoy. I know we did!

exploregon,

You and your wife did exceptional over the weekend, the coins, bottle and other artifacts are nice. The tokens are my favorite finds and they tell a better story of what went on in that particular site. Great picures, nice story about friends and finds, it does'nt get any better than that. Good luck and happy hunting to you both !

For those who read you post and might not know what a "bit" token is, it is one with the value of half of "two-bits." For newcomers to the hobby ands finding Goof For Trade Tokens (some of my all-time favorite targets to search for), we refer to 50

Monte advised me to get a classic and boy was he right. I love this detector! Thanks Monte! Nice finds exploregon. I wish I could have escaped and joined you all on the outing...maybe someday.

I wish you could have joined us as we had a vast area to search and there were only 19/20 on the outing so there was ample room to fit in. While this site has been detected "at will" by occasional travelers or tourists since the '70s (like so many forlorn places we encounter), I know it still holds a fair amount of good targets. There is enough discarded junk, as expected in any old town site, but that's part of the challenge we enjoy taking on.

And to do it best we need ample patience, the skill, to work a coil slowly and methodically, the tolerance to confront a lot of pesky trash, and the savvy to have in had one of the better metal detectors and smaller coil to get the best results. I've been hunting ghost towns since May 4th of 1969 and most of the better success I have had I can attribute to using a good Tesoro since mid-'83 or White's Classic series model since '94.

In my quest to get and use and learn all the detectors I can for decades now, I have owned and parted with many, many great specimens, only to later acquire one again and then repeat that over and over. Well, I'm done making bad decisions with good detectors. Of the currently produced White's models, the MXT Pro is my personal #1 pick and it is the main all-purpose detector in my personal arsenal. I keep the 6

Al,

I covered a bit of this in my explanation here: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?31,1925167,1926915#msg-1926915 to berryman regarding what the 'X' might mean as a difference between the Classic ID and the Classic IDX Pro.

The primary differences between the Classic IDX and IDX Pro are the following:

1.. They went from the shiny silver decal below the display to a black background decal.
2.. The dropped the word "Classic" in the title.
3.. The added 'Pro' after IDX as my above mentioned post described. Just a name change.

They say they enhanced the upper-end Sensitivity a little, and perhaps they did, had quite a few Classic IDX and IDX Pro models at the same time and have compared them side-by-side after making the Threshold and GB settings match, and there was very little, if any, difference. On a couple of occasions I found the Classic IDX to have a very slight edge over the IDX Pro and visa-versa. Most of the time they worked equally.

Basically, it's the same detector with a name change, just like dropping the '6000' and switching the latter from the 6000 Pro XL to simply the XL Pro.

The only difference with Chris' IDX Pro and my IDX Pro is that they have been modified by 'Mr. Bill' Crabtree and have the external Threshold and Ground Balance controls. Those are aftermarket differences and not a particular model production thing.

By the way, I have a Classic III-Plus, Classic IDX and IDX Pro in stock at the present time, should you be shopping for an excellent detector for the types of sites mentioned. Also, if you like proven older models like I do, I have a very good condition XL Pro I just had checked out at White's on Wednesday and it's perfect!

Monte

Hi Monte, thanks for the answer. So basically they are both the same. Except for the colors and decals You mention that you have a idx pro for sale. Can you e mail me at Albert 548moa@yahoo.com with the details please? Thanks again. Al

Here are a few of these items now that they've been cleaned. We have a few more items that I might be able to clean up and scan in as soon as more time opens up. Enjoy
