Thermal Imaging

Years ago, I saw a book produced by Kodak, which included what was believed to be a Viking site, in Minnesota, or North Dakota, if memory serves. The images shown depicted the outline of compacted earth, contrasted with the surrounding soil.

It was stated that ektachrome IR film was used, and the imaging had to be accomplished within 30 minutes of daylight in order to show the best contrast.

Now forward to today...I would like to have the ability to go in an airplane, capture satellite images, etc., and use the ability to thermally differentiate older areas of where houses were, racetracks, etc. Old stagecoach roads should show up nicely I would think. The foundation walls of older homes would have been compacted, as would the floor, in comparison with the surrounding ground.

What I am hoping is that someone on here, can guide me to the relevant sites to learn how to do this and apply the knowledge to my treasure hunting endeavors. Thanks to all who view and especially to who responds and sheds light on my quest.
