therick, talk to Coast Wise about Head Hunter will ya"....

I bought a Headhunter PI about a year ago from the classified here at findmall. I am very pleased with how lightweight the unit is as all of the controls are located in the headphones. It is a PI unit so I dig everything but I am going to dig everything when I go to the beach anyway so that's not a problem. If you live in an area where the beaches are real trashy or have small bits of iron on the beach, a PI will drive you nuts and it might not be the unit for you. I like the 11in. coil and it hits targets very deep. I am primarily a water hunter, chest to neck deep so it's hard to say how deep some of my targets are but I'd guess that I get pennies at about 12 to 14 in. regularly. I have a huge scoop that holds about a gallon of material per scoop and on the weaker targets it takes 3 or 4 scoops before I hone in on it. Now, some of the negative aspects....... the Headhunter holds two 9 volt batteries and the owners manual says about 12 hours of use. I find myself having to change them about every 6 to 8 hrs. I've tried rechargeables but the only last 3 hrs. The headphones could fit a little more snugly so they don't shift around as much. 'course some of that could be controlled if Detectorpro could figure out a way to spiral the cord from the headphones about 12 in. or so. That would eliminate any pulling of the cord which pulls the headphones while on your head. It'll also eliminate having to send the detector back to the factory to have the cord fixed because you dropped the rod in the surf while digging a target and breaking one of the wires which transmits sound to the ear cup. (which I obviously did.) BUT, I can't say enough about the guys that fixed my headphones, 3 days there to the factory less than a day for repair and shipped out the same day they received it and fixed it. Great, great, great service.

Having said all of this, If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I probably would. Overall satisfaction with the Headhunter PI is an 8 on a scale of 10. Fix the few small problems I mentioned and I'd upscale it to a 10. Reasonable price, lightweight, fast service, and great depth equals lots of great hunts. I am also learning that if you tweak some of the tuning knobs just right, you can discriminate between bobby pins and small wire and still pick up small gold rings. That comes with practice and learning your machine.

Good luck in whatever you decide, you'll love hunting the water.

therick

P.S. it takes a little practice to pinpoint targets with the large coil, underwater, where you can't see it.

Thanks for responding so quickly therick, I'm sure this information will help him with his decision. He may want to contact you for more details, He is currently running a Garrett sea Hunter 500 and is looking for more gold hits.GH
