The locusts that is. I'd hoped to pull up a photo of them that I took of them 6 years back. They were unbelievable thick. From memory, about 2000 per square metre. They are only about a 100 per square metre at the moment, but they often flew up and smacked into my legs while detecting yesterday. Speaking of nature; we were finally declared to be drought free last week, only the second time to be so in the last 13 years. With heavy rain fall up in Queensland, which had enough flood water to fully cover the southern state of Victoria (if it fell there), all the water is slowly making it's way south, with it's peak taking six weeks to past any particular point. I sure hope that you and your wife didn't get washed away Whadda! Sounds like more is coming your way.
Anyway, I hunted my favourite spot yesterday with 10 coins recovered and only 3 pull tabs and 1 screw cap, while using the 1500 for a total of $13.75. Not a bad ratio.
Funny enough, as the drought has effected my work, I now get an extra day at home, so played around with both the Ace and the GTI. It amazes me just how well the Ace can ID coins from other targets. It certainly is right up there for performance! Personally; I think that they hold their own with the GTI for their coin IDing performance. I was hoping to justify an excuse to cut loose and buy the the GTP 1350. (but can't!) I love the Elliptical concentric coils. They are just so efficient at ground coverage, pinpointing and IDing coins.

I run it with half the notches knocked out which has really tamed the tones. I rediscovered that a side to side pinpoint will easily tell a coin from a screw cap; which is real handy. Our $2 coins have usually been pretty distinct from them, but the $1 coins, because of their larger size, are a lot harder to tell. This method seems to give much greater clarity between the 2; at least initially.

Hi Mic,, we stayed high and dry as far as flood water goes but this is by far the most rain I have seen here,, I am only 36 but this rain broke records from back in the 50s which were the wettest years for the last 100 or so ,, it rained for so long without letting up I felt a bit like Uncle Willy,,, ,,we have just had another 65 mm of rain from cyclone ului which crossed the cost about 400kms north of here but it went further north and sent it's rain down this way,,we have done very little detecting since Christmas,,,I think maybe only about 20 hours total ( I was getting that in a week before),,the thing we have the most of at the moment is the bities,, and there seems to be no end to them,,but the rain is doing great things to heal the effects of the drought,,and as you said the drought is officially over here as well, which is great news no matter how inconvenient the rain is,,also the good thing is that the days are cooling of so will be able to get out for more of the day instead of 2 hours in the morning and 2 at night,, all we have to do now is wait for the cows to eat more grass so we can get to some of our old pub sites,,the thought of a weed eater is not great,,,,I am thinking about upgrading to the 2500 in the next few months but like the thought of selling the 1350 to be able to pay for it and I just bought the 9 x 12 coil which is going well so might Wait until later in the year,,

cheers Roger

The thing I've noticed about my Ace 250, is that it will give you a tone that it has detected something that may fall in the coin area at first, but will quickly give you a determination of iron a second later. It has been spot on in that respect.

Glad to hear you two stayed dry! Sounds like you are hunting as much as me.
Decisions decisions. It sounds like the 1350 is a great detector. Something that is worth remembering. The 1350 will size with any coil. The GTI will only size with the 2 sizing coils! I quite like the GTI, but I still find it a bit of a challenge sorting the $1 coins from screw caps. Getting better at it though. I'm slowly starting to pick up on some of the subtleties of the sizing, but still got some way to go with it.
The 1350 often get my interest in. I guess that it'll just be a matter of timing as to when I buy one. I'd want the GTI to pay for itself first though.
