Theory-Low Battery power/finding more stuff/XLT

Hello,

Have any of you experienced less trashy hits when your detector is low on juice?
Last week I went out with a week battery pack. Just a little over 9v on the meter. Typically I keep my battery charged and ready to go. On my way to my hunting area I was finding all kinds of pop tops and junk. When I finally got to the spot I found all kinds of good stuff and the detector was running stable. On my way back to the truck I covered the exact same path, as I was walking next to the river. This time I did not get all the junky hits that I had started getting on the way in. Today I went directly to the spot without using the detector, and the battery was at a little over 11v. I could not believe all the trash hits I was getting in the area where I didn't get them last week.
I remember another time too where my buddy and I worked this lot over for most of the day. At the end of the day we went over some areas that we hit at least 6 times before. We found all kinds of deep stuff we had previously missed. I don't remember what the battery was at, buy I know it was low.
Have any of you experienced this situation? Is it in the realm of possiblity?

Thats an interesting question , my guess is that a lower voltage of say 9 volts should make no difference to the performance. As the voltage falls closer to the minimum voltage that the detector will work with then i dare say a drop off in sensitivity might result , just a guess though..

I always found with the newer motion machines that the battery regulation is so good it makes little difference to performance until the batteries get so low that several things such as loss of depth, poor target I.D. happen at the same time.
Pre motion there were several machines, Arado 120B for instance, that did seem to work better as the batteries dropped. Some manufacturers also suggested that new batteries should never be used. They should be put in a radio or similar for an hour to knock the edge of the power output. This might have been down to lack of power regulation or perhaps some brands of batteries could not be trusted to be of the correct voltage. Even today a battery may read far higher than the stated output. One 9 volt PP3 I had checked out at 12.6 volts. Put a few of them in an old Garrett that takes 6 cells and you could be in trouble.

Try lowering your sens or Preamp gain next time that your batteries are up and see if it reproduces your observations. You may just be running too hot for conditions? Just a thought.

Also try pumping up your preamp and lower your Sens.
