their should be a show on metal detecting

I see everything on cable from paint ball competition, to fishing, now metal detecting is an art, and it should be aired on T.v. or cable which everone comes first. Or perhaps it's on T.v. and I am not aware of it, what do you guys think?:help::garrett:

has a show on called gold fever or something like that. mostly about prospecting, panning, etc. occassionally has md as it applies to this field. if everyone were to contact that channel and demonstrate an audience they might pay attention. steve

My opinion ...........

I can not imagine a quicker way to cause sever restrictions on the use of a metal detecting.

Respect for other people's rights has diminished greatly. And, respect for private and public property is almost nonexistent. I know I am getting old, but I remember when even throwing trash on the ground simply was not done because of respect for the community.

This lack of respect has had an impact on the metal detecting community. We have all seen areas declared off-limits to metal detecting because a small group of inconsiderate people have left open holes and/or killed vegetation.

With this general lack of respect in mind, I think a TV show about metal detecting could further cripple our hobby. I believe the general public would get a completely distorted attitude about metal detecting from a TV show. The producers would not want to show the "boring time" finding pull tabs, bottle caps and all of the other trash targets we all find. More than likely they would only show people finding diamonds rings, silver dollars, and gold nuggets. And, I am sure they would show the people finding those things with only one or two swings of the coil.

After a few of these episodes get aired, I suspect a huge number of people will order their new "treasure finders". Soon this horde of "treasure hunters" will begin to rip and tear through our parks, schools, and other private and public lands. As they become frustrated by not finding the diamond rings they start digging bigger and deeper holes.

Can you see new laws and ordinances being enacted quickly? Sure hope I am wrong about this.

NO NO NO BAD DOG!!!
We really dont need or want a tv show on our fun!!
I live in Beautiful Colorado on a beautiful river and along comes Mr Hollywood and makes a RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT, and where I used to fly fish anytime on my own property I wanted and not only that, I could usually not even see another fisherman on the river for miles NOW I watched yesterday while I was getting on my waders to go for a little fishing 4 cars pulled up on me across the river and unloaded 19 fishermen from the city, Now Dude this is private posted land and not one of those guys could read or cared to pay attension to the signs so I had to spend all my fishing time informing these nice guys that what they read was actually fact Private Posted land I paid dear for and being a poor lower middle class self employed working gunsmith Money dont grow on trees around here. Seems rich city folks (and these arent guys taking their kids fishing but drs. and lawyers)just dont care. Thank You Mr. River Runs Through IT!! No thanks to Metal Detecting TV. show. I would rather not have such fun ruined.
Sorry for Ranting Im going fishing

Oh no!!! I see it already! Every do gooder saying how we all destroy the parks, schools, lawns, history, church yards etc: Etc: etc: Do we not have enough problems to find spots to detect. I live in IL (sorry)and two counties for sure maybe three now Cook,Will, maybe dupage do not allow metal detecting on any public parks, schools or anything and even with permission from someone working there the police do not care out you go. Cook cty. ticket can be fined $10,000.00 plus the legal hassle. Most state parks are not allowing detecting. I say keep it quite. Not all have respect.

This is something we already have a problem with and need to keep the people that really love it and know how to do it! Kind of like finding a gold field...Lets just tell everyone! Restrictions would get worse to because everything will come out in the open on TV!.
IMHO

I'm with you bud. Enough of our good times have been ruined. I had to run somwe folks off of posted land one time and they were highly insulted that they couldn't just trespass at will. I asked them if they had seen the signs. Their answer, " Certainly but who pays attention to those." Typical Yuppies.

Sorry to hear that. I was yanked up in Illinois. It certainly has changed. That's why I like it out here, everything is wide open. Oregon is big on personal freedoms.

Bill

Don't think so, May be good for the detector companies. The way they advertise showing rings, coins, like all you have to do is buy and this is what your going to find. A metal detecting show can only harm what little freedom we do have. The show is surly not going to film all the trash, bottle caps, pull tabs, etc. that we dig and dispose of in a garbage container. Too boring. The only thing they would do is plant some goodies, and film finding them. Not the true life world of detecting.

Personally, I woud dread such a show after observing what I believe the fishing shows have done for fishing in my state (just my opinion of course). A whole new breed of fisherman has been unleashed on us. The only folks that seem to have benefited are the people selling boats and fishing gear. The trash in the lakes and ponds has increased and access to boat ramps has become more restricted by local towns and the pressure on the fish population has increased to the point where all the local waters seem quite over fished.

As interesting as a show could be, I can't even imagine a metal detecting show on TV being a good thing for us or the hobby.

jus my humble opinion

Well, I think the theory of a show is a fantastic idea, but, (there's always a "but"), I have to agree with everyone that the negative impact would be outrageous. For the show to fly, sponsors would come on board, and, well, that would seriously bias the opinions expressed. And as much as I, and I'm sure most others would LOVE to see a quality show, I just don't think the realism would come through. But I'll but there'd be some interesting sales pitches.

Well, just my 2 Wheaties worth.

Yeah the shows would be like the White TV ads showing a diamond ring for your first time out with your new detector.

Bill

Well I can say I found an 18K with 11 small diamonds on 2nd outing with GTI 2500. Should have had a video on that one!

I did see the Gold Fever show where the guy carried the detector on his back up the mountain, waited and waited to see him use the thing and finally he did towards the end of the show, it was a White's too and he did get a signal, then dug and dug then called his buddy over to help dig and finally they hit paydirt, I almost laughed myself out of the chair when they pulled out a Budweiser can!

I vote H No to a TV show, whacha wanna do become a couch potato! I too have seen the ruins of the fishing shows and remember when there was very very few areas that had any postings, it wasn't needed back then!

I don't have time for TV now and spend too much time on this damm puter when I should be out detecting even if I only get to my own back yard I feel better than wasting my time on TV!

Ok, I'm done!

I hope not, then everybody will get a detector and leave holes in the ground and it will end end up bad for us. I now spend a great amount of time covering holes left by someone else where i metal detect. Jerry
