It's colder then a witches *%# out there today. Its damp and I didn't even know if I wanted to go out or just stay in and watch TV.
But the wife says go out and have some fun. Just dress warmly, so I went to a local football field.
When starting out I thought about just going home and say the heck with it.
But since I was already out there I said give it a hour or two.
There came a time where I said this is enough, and called it a day.
After I got home I washed the coins and did an inspection. I couldn't believe it I had a merc in my hands.
So after all I guess it was meant that's where I was suppose to be there ?
Now it was worth it. Super glad I bought the 305. Just love that machine.

Happy Hunting

Now that I have the Koss headphones on I hear all the good coins.
This morning I wasn't sure about going out, but now I'm glad I did.

Happy Hunting to you

Like that silver. I might have to try some of those koss headphones.

Well looks like you were rewarded for getting out there.Time well spent!

bruce1036, nice finds and silver is always nicer!

Yes I know it is costly, but also you may now want to get a DD coils for your 305. Like the 6" Double-D 18.75 kHz Coil & 10.5" Round Double-D 7.5 kHz Coil. http://www.minelab.com/usa/products/consumer/accessories/coils

Two questions for you:

1) Since you have both the 305 and Ace 250. With stock coils, how do they both compare in depth, discrimination, and handling bad ground & interference??

2) What model of Koss headphones do you have??

Thanks for your help.

Depth - Garrett Ace 250 has a 6" x 9" 6.5 freq coil. The Xterra 305 has a 9" 7.5 freq coil.
The stock coil on the Ace it will get 6" on a dime and I have hit quarters at 7" maybe 8" also with it. Ground conditions change and so does the depth !
It loves dimes and quarters. I mean it just loves them they hit hard.
With the ground conditions being wet I was hitting dimes with the 305 at 8" Sunday, and quarters at 9".
But most of the finds were on an average of 4" to 6".

Pin Pointing - The 305 has a tighter bite. When pin pointing and pressing the pin point button it was in a lesser diameter then the Ace. That's the one subject people always write about about the Ace. With the Ace if you find the diameters too large then you need to pull the coil off the target and re-hit the pin point button. This will tighten the area. It's something you get use to.

Bad ground I haven't noticed any in New York, Maine and Florida that effected the Ace and so far the 305. The ground balance gives it an edge on the 305.
As far as interference I walked the power lines and had no trouble. (Both machines)

The head phones I'm using are from Whites. There call the E series 9000. Volume control is on the lead about 10 from the headset.

Overall both machines are great, but I would say the Xterra 305 has the edge in depth, pin pointing and stable running, but if you can't afford the Xterra 305. The Ace will do the job.

Will I get rid of the Ace 250 since I have the 305? No. I have all 3 coils and the DD work terrific on Maine and Florida beaches, and the sniper coil is great around playgrounds.

The truth of the story is " The machine is only as good as the user". I work with a guy and he as the Fisher 1266. They no longer make it I believe.
He's had this machine for at least 7 years if not more. His brother upgrades every other year This year he got the new Whites V3, and every time out the 1266 kicks butt. I believe the guy sleep with his machine.

Well Happy Hunting
