The X70 with the 7.5 /10.5 2d and steelcaps

I was hunting the dry sand today and those caps where hitting 40 to 42. I discided to play with the disc. a bit. I accepted neg. 2 and 4 then accepted pos. 4 to 48. It seemed to make the 99 tones vary better also the number and tones jumped more. I also pumped the coil on iffy signals and if it goes neg. it seemed to be steelcaps everytime. Has anyone else seen this? It works for me but takes some targets to get used too. The other thing the high sensitivty the better it worked. The other thing with this coil deep better targets seem to bounce the number close to each other.Thank you for looking,Joe

Pumping the coil on the steel caps, sounds like an interesting idea. Worth a bit of an experiment. thanks for sharing it with us.

Great job experimenting, always worth a try.

It seem excepting neg. 2 and 4 in 99 tones let you hear the low and altering tones for better id before looking at the meter. It also seems the higher sensitivty (24 about) lets the machine get a better grap on the target. I have been using the pumping technique for a while. A freind told me about it a long time ago. I used it on the White's M6 and it will shot neg. almost everytime. He used it in the Fisher CZ series. Hope this helps,Joe

It's good when you pick up new techniques. I discovered that I could pinpoint with the X-Terra the same way that I can with the Ace. I was pretty impressed with the discovery, only to find out that it is just a standard concentric pinpoint method! Oh well, that's what sharing on the forums is all about. Wouldn't it be nice, if someone wrote a book onto general standardised techniques. that would save us dumbo's a few years on the learning curve.:lol:No point in reinventing the wheel. (Somebody probably has already done it I suppose. I'm just not aware of it. The FAQFAQ is a good push in that direction.
Something that picked up on on the week-end. (Although I did pretty well as far as recovering coins goes, what I also experienced, was a fair degree of frustration.) I grabbed the 30, and took it out into the back yard with a good selection of coins and common junk items. After playing around with it for well over an hour, I noticed that by paying close attention to the audio and how targets specifically jumped around on the meter, I was surprised at how well I could tell certain specific targets. This could be very handy. Not only for the fact that you know when you are over a coin, but when something out of the ordinary passes underneath the coil, it won't be dismissed as another junk signal as easily. So that should help improve the chances of making some neat finds.
I'm pretty happy to just have the 30 for now, but concede that the 70 has quite a number of tricks to it that can improve your odds (like what you described by using the 99 tones and using prospecting mode to pinpoint with. I got my hands on a 70 for a couple of minutes, before Christmas and got to try that one out. Thanks Digger).

do to this forum it take a lot of good info and time and compresses it for a quick learning. If you watch the meter you don't need all the tones. The extra tones just let your ears do the work before looking at the meter.Thank you everyone and the forum,Joe
