The X305 is now the natural step up option for Garrett ACE 250 owners.

Garrett has had a runaway hit with the ACE 250, but when owners looked for an upgrade detector in the Garrett line, they have not found much to get excited about. This is perhaps a little too tongue in cheek, but if you transpose the numbers in the X305 model number to X350, then it's easy to think of it as the ACE 350.;) I've prepared a chart listed below, that compares the two detectors and shows the advantages offered by upgrading to the X305.

But none of the above belies the fact that Minelab just delivered a major broadside against every other detector in the $400USD lower mid-range market segment. The feature set is impressive to say the least:

1. A dual frequency TDI/VDI detector for $400USD, versus the other latest release multi-freq @ $1400, can you say VALUE? :poke:
2. Ground balance in All Metal and Discrimination, you got it.
3. Threshold, you got it.
4. A variety of tone settings, including multi-tone, you got it.
5. Noise cancel, you got it.
6. Dead easy notch system, you got it.
7. A proven stable detecting platform, you got it.
8. A total of seven coil choices from large to small, you got it.
9. Large easy to read display for the visually challenged:heh:, you got it.
10. A volume control, and it has a split headphone/speaker setting.
11. Plus patterns and an All Metal shortcut button.

Alright enough, my fingers are getting tired. But really $400USD? I think Minelab gave away the store on this one.:yikes:

Am I know the answer will be the street price will be $398.95 which is the MSP as defined by Minelab but the other brands are similarly discounted.

So yes, there is a good deal of performance and features in the 305 . . . . . but Minelab's list price is at the $500 mark . . . . with the 505 at $700 and the 705 at $950.

Hi Bill,

Frankly, I thought the Ace 250 was a better value than the X-Terra 30. The 305 certainly changes that with the addition of the 18.75 kHz frequency. Now there is a clear step up going to the 305 that is well worth the extra money.

feature wise. With the flood of competition from certain quarters in the mid price line it was a smart move! ML should have renamed them the X350, X550 and X750. :)

blows the ace right out of the water.........they need to step up bigtime if they are gonna compete with minelab now

These 2 detectors are probably the most similar detector that you can get on the market. Over here in Oz, the price difference is only $20! It makes the X-Terra far more price competitive than the Ace. Having had a lot of hours of use on each the Ace and X-Terra 30, they both certainly have their own strong points and week points. Although the X-Terra has more features on paper, there's more to a detector than that. They'll both continue to have their place in the market place and us uses will be cheering all the way to our hunting grounds, being the beneficiaries of these great improvements. (I just wish that I could buy a reliable X-Terra. Bought my new X-Terra 70 a few weeks back and the numeric display is playing up. I don't seem to be able to take a trick with these fellas. I'll be getting it tended too shortly though, so hopefully I'll be back on track soon..)

In the $400 price range the 305 will certainly be the gold standard.
