THE X-TERRA and HEADPHONE CABLES !

BOB VALDEZ

I guess I have been using my X-Terra 50 for more then 4 months now. Let us say I use it like 5 times a week, and 3 hours a day, makes 15 hours a week, 60 hours a month.

Well, I have been breaking cables on my headphone. First I thought it was the headphone itself (a Koss), but I have broken cables on another Koss and 2 (at least !) on a (blue) Maz.

Then I bought a Rat headphone. Very good sound, I think about the same as the Maz. The Rat was the only phone with 90

Take a piece of Velcro strap like the kind to keep the coil cable tight on the pole that looks like this:

And wrap it around the pole and the headphone cable on the coiled part to act as a strain relief and take the pressure off of the connector. Problem solved.

Heck have used my last set of headphones for 6-7 years with nary a cable problem...For some reason you are putting undo strain on them and hope your coil cable is long..as a short cable could be the problem. I do like the setup you have, but feel its not the detector, but the cables themselves or perhaps the operator not being careful especially if they get caught on a tree limb or something similiar...
As far as useage many retired folks put a lot more hours in than he does. Hopefully your strain relief will help...

But that is good advice you are giving me. People think I am rough with my headphones, but I am far from that, believe me. It is just that you swing that plug TOWARDS your body, if you are right handed and that may cause some friction/tension. And I don't have a belly, either !

Now, I must find such a cable, again, since the one on my RAT is making noises, again. In the end, he'll be... DEAD !

I have 2 spare ones in the car, carrying one with my when I am hunting, now. But they are not build for metal detecting. Of course, I am happy I found a couple of cables...

That way I can be prepared. I like Barnacle Bill's solution

Why didn't I (!!) think of that, lol ! Let's hope it works, now...

I don't have a picture of it, but, when I get my new X-70, I plan on using the velcro ties like you suggest and routing the extension down my rod and connect to my headphone plug at the butt end. This puts it out of my way when I am digging and gives me another 8-10" or so in length. I think the ties are a great idea! And, now I know why I bought that extension cable:thumbup:

`~!@#$%^&*()_+=-;:'",<.>/?*-/ That's all I got on my keyboard Bob, maybe I got ripped.....oh well, that's the way it goes. Sure don't have that symbol....John
