the worst day since yesterday.

I wish this detector did not work.
Four of us hit a football practice field behind a school over one hundred-fifteen years old. A typical Louisiana afternoon, 95 degrees, 88 % humidity, and
the mosquitoes are wearing suntan lotion. Open the truck door and its a physical assault like a pressure cooker, and have not even unloaded the
detectors yet. Walk through the gate, and find a place under a shady tree & turn on my Treasure Baron. Someone fifteen feet away with a CZ has hit a signal and wants me to check it, but I get wah, wah, wah. I tell him he is too close and he backs off, I am still getting feedback, and have people all around me.
I turn it off and leave for another tree, light up a cigar [mosquito repellent], and turn it back on-still getting feedback type audio. I look to the south-I'm a long way from the transformers for problems, and never had any with the Baron here. I unplug the coil, loosen one screw on the battery door, remove the other screw
and pull out the door-people are still yelling "come see what you get here." I pull both battery backs to check them for proper alignment [just replaced them recently] and + & - are correct. I push a pack in, can't see for the cigar smoke-but no mosquitoes, then add the second pack. I turn on the detector, nice and smooth threshold, L.E.D's scanning, and go over the battery door on the ground-nothing. I go to all metal, nothing, pinpoint, nothing. I add a ten inch knife-nothing. Then I pull the ML pinpointer out, turn it on and drop it-well it works as the coil goes across it. The only other thing I'm picking up is the fire ants crawling up my leg. That's it, heat humidity and smoke, time to put the battery door on and just watch. I bend over to pick it up-a moment of total clarity, the coil is still unplugged. Plug it in, everything test perfect. I have the signal set to a dual tone in the nickel notch at the nickel disc. out point, and the other signals falling in the notch I know are pull tabs, this is a faster sweep, [nickel reject on Cointrax-2 module, rotary disc. pushed in and turned until it hits the right disc point for nickel.] NOW I start hunting, and checking some signals for the 2,CZ guys & SE guy. What the hell, they are experienced hunters? Zincs-like to meet the guy that came up with that idea, the things have bad corrosion at the beach in six months. Every single nickle signal from my notch audio setup is a nickel. I dig some of the signals in the nickel notch that just have the single tone and I know should be pull tabs-every one I dig is. There is an area there that used to be bleachers that produces nickels, and tabs that produces a lot of nickels, but today that is direct sunlight-no way. [We had heat strokes from those conditions when I was 18 at Ft. Polk-someone hit the ground and the D.I.'s had a heart attack.] Wheaties at eight+ inches [fill dirt]. I turn on the Deephuner to full 40% boost, and have a much stronger signal-I can pick the coil up a lot and hit it easy, but I really don't need the boost and turn it off. Easy detector to identify non ferrous with ferrous, and pull coins out from nail infested sites. The eight inch Baron using Deephunter is a laser. (The only other detector I've had that worked iron so good to depth was the Compass X-100 in 2 filter sweep mode using the 16" coil-absolutely the opposite of what's recommended, but try finding that combination for sale.) Wheats are coming up, and lots of clad with a 1964 dime & 1943 dime. I like the ML pinpointer, it is faster, but standing up brings dizziness and I'm soaked, and half way on my second cigar-already had a heat stroke this year. I turn it off and sit back against a tree waiting for the driver to get tired. At the end of two hours they finally wilt, and all meet around me. Everyone had silver, the guy with me had 2-silver nickels, the other two had 1 piece of silver. Everyone had clad, and while they had relatively few zincs, I had a beaucoup pouchful- there are Indians at this site. I got home I could barely put the stuff in the frig, and emptied a Gatorade. I sat down on the bed, just remember sitting, and the next time I opened my eyes four hours had passed.
The parable to this story is if your detector is broke, don't fix it until its raining, then hunt.
Bon chance!

Vlad it sounds like you need to follow my lead. I get up early of a morning and plan on being where I want to dirt fish around the time it gets daylight while the temps are in the 70's. Gives me a few hours to detect before the temps hit the high 80's. The high temps are another reason that I prefer to detect the beach in the summer as I can go for a wade in the ocean to cool off.
