Stopped by a well worked park and did some metal detecting today temps in the mid 60s .Used a Sovereign Elite with a 800 inch Tornado coil.My first hunt of the year and noticed the coins were not jumping up like Asian Carp and landing into my apron. This is a clean park the first area detected no signals at 180, yelp cherry picking looking for silver. My original meter was used I changed the power cord and didn't recalibrate.Forgot my small screw driver so I was off one full number 179 for a US Quarter.Dug a couple of deep Lincolns and some Pabst Blue Ribbon can slaw.I went to an area not search much and found a deep 1965 quarter. Also dug a couple of 165 targets older pull tabs ,which was a good sign.More detecting a loud signal 179 probably a surface coin and retrieved another 1965 quarter about four inches deep and in the hole kept recovering more coins using the S-1 probe. The newest coin dug of at least 6 was the 1965 quarter 2 wheat's and Lincolns from 1960-64.My thoughts were there could be a silver coin in the hole but the S-1 probe gave no more signals.I switched the Sovereign off the probe and back on the coil and swept around the hole before moving on and got another signal in the hole further out to the edge.I dug out the edge and used the probe and got another target a 1954 silver dime.Anyway first hunt of the year yields silver and a nice day in the park. HH Ron

Hey, nice hunt Ron! I got out also yesterday...was windy but great to work a field in a button down shirt instead of all bundled up.

Glad you could get out and find some coins! and a slice of silver to end the nice "Spring" break ! HH - Jim

I t was nice to be down to one layer of clothes. My wife took the blankets off all the horses.Lots of fur on some, my horse looks like a draft horse with his winter coat, so much for predicting weather, been a very mild winter for Michigan. Thanks Ron

Jim,always nice to get out.I bought a Tarus 380 from Bass Pro and they give you the purchase papers to mail in to the county within 10 days.I forgot to mail in the paper work so decided on a park not far from the court house.I had to walk a distance from the parking lot to the court house and then empty my pockets and walk through a metal detector gate.I handed them my phone and they told me you couldn't enter with a camera phone which I had to walk back to my car.LOL went back again and after I got through the gate the officer wanted to know the nature of my business. Her reply oh you are in the wrong building records doesn't handle purchase permits you must go to the jail house.Anyway get to the Jail house and of the three identical forms I brought the wrong two,the clerk said that was fine and laughed and said don't let it happen again. After this process I'm finally one my way to the park.By the way the little 380 is much better to carry than a 38 which feels like you are carrying a brick after an hour or so.

We did have some exceptionally nice weather here in Michigan yesterday! Nice job picking that Silver Rosie out of a well picked park!

I was able to get out yesterday as well. Unfortunately, the day started on a low note as I was informed that a city park that I have hunted for years is no longer open to metal detecting.

Nice hunt Ron. This time of year is a gift to be able to hunt. Ive been out as well. Nothing to brag about...just clad. I do take my new hunting partner...a Ruger LCP .380. Peace and HH. Matt

John,we need to find a park between our locations. How about Pontiac Lk next week? Later Ron

Matt,I picked out the Ruger but the salesman talked me into the Tauras, which was the last one in stock at that store location. Those new little 380s sure are nice to carry and gives a lot more rounds than the 5 shot 38.Again nice to get out and I had to work for that silver Rosie.Maybe next time we all find some gold. Thanks Ron

The Taurus .380 or the .380 Ruger LCP is a nice little carrying gun and either will fill the need very nicely while metal detecting. They are both sleek in design and yes, much easier to carry then the bulky .38. I am glad you got all your paperwork straightened out at the jail house. Suppose to be nice this coming Sunday (56 degrees and sunny) hopefully I will be able to get out and do a little hunting. Stay safe and HH - Jim
