The VX3 tones makes me want to grab a piece of wood and start gnawing on it

The tones of the VX3 is going to make me get rid of it. I am not crazy about the extras of the V3I, but i want to be able to assign tones. "1 or 191 Is just plain stupid to me.. The VX3 would be perfect to me if it had tone assignment. just venting a little.:veryangry:

Yup..... I have a V3i and first thing I did was to get rid of the cacophony......... Love the V3i, The VX3 was never even a contender for me.

That was the only reason i sold the vx3. And at that time i found a 1 month old v3i on this forum so i bought it. Sold vx3 for $950 on auction site bought v3i for $800 shipped. Used it for 5 months but i found myself tweaking too much and second guessing my own settings. I love the mxtpro which is why i really liked the vx3 for being simple just too many tones for me. So now i sold v3i and made almost enough to pay for my mx5. ;) i really really like the mx5! Its lighter so easy to set up and for me its better than the v3i,vx3 and so very close to mxtpro depth is equal to or depending on the site deeper than the others. I feel its better in rusty trash as im finding good items mixed with heavy trash. And i did do side by sides with same coils before i sold v3i ;) i kept the one that i felt gave me the best chance at finding what im looking for. Simple = fun for me.

Of all the high end detectors, the V3i has the best tones and tone settings in my opinion.

There are only extras on the V3i if you use them. The V3i can be run as simple as a VX3 but with the advantage of adjustable tones and extra filters if wanted or needed. Why be angry about the tones on the VX3, I've talked about the lack of adustable VX3 tones extensively on the forum. The VX3 tones are no secret. Many people love the VX3 and have stated so on this forum. Its a matter of choice when you buy.

I bought a AT Pro when they first came out. Larry said, "You won't like it". I used it once and sold it, no complaints. Many people love them, it was just not for me.

I went from an XLT to the VX3 and yes the tones were a little much at first then i got used to the machine. I would like to have a middle filter between the two if i had a choice for my area. I have no complaints as i knew what i was buying when i did. One day i will have a V3I.

Yes sir, i know that the tones have been discussed before, i guess i am just kicking myself in the south side of my north bound self if you get my drift. I never did enough research on the tones of the VX3 before i bought it, even though they were apparently available. I think i am going to go ahead and purchase a V3I or hopefully do some trading with my local whites dealer on a V3I and hope he doesn't recognize a weakness:). The VX3 is a great detector and i love it and i tried to deal with tones, but just can't seem to deal with the 1 or 191. GL & HH, and to everyone A Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Hope things work out for you.

What boggles my mind is that used VX3's are selling pretty darn close to The used V3I's

That's because people have the misconception that the V3i is harder to use and the VX3 is simple. Just more bad information that is spread on the forums. The V3i has more features but you don't have to use them, BUT THEY ARE THERE WHEN YOU WANT THEM. A V3i can be run as a VX3 the reverse is not true.

Typical approach:-

Set all locations to ACCEPT:.via EXPERT mode. DISCRIMINATION, enter, Down to VDI SELECTED BY, enter. Down to GRAPH then EDIT enter

Set all locations to ACCEPT by; holding UP ARROW key then block edit by pressing LEFT ARROW key until all locations are traversed, then repeat using/holding the UP ARROW key whilst pressing and holding down the RIGHT arrow key to traverse fully to the positive VDI +95.
All locations are now Accepting.

You then set your tone's pitch to audibly convey which are desired or ignored targets, as described below.

You can 'silence' any location's audio by setting its VDI to REJECT, using the DOWN arrow for that location or locations, whilst doing the GRAPH set-up.

Next, via the EXPERT mode, go to AUDIO, enter then TONE, enter down to TONE ID MODE, enter and lastly, CUSTOM enter then Down-arrow to EDIT; press enter...

The VDI listing will allow you to set the tone (1-255) for either each individual location....OR....block copy any setting over any range you choose, by simply pressing and HOLDING DOWN ENTER on the one you wish to replicate, whilst press and hold the appropriate ARROW key ( UP or DOWN) to traverse whatever range you desire.

Hope that's what you're looking for........

The VX3 does not have adjustable tones and that is what the post is addressing.. The VX3 has the same tone or 191 different ones. The v3i tones are adjustable.

Hi Rob....and Yowow#1......apologies from me, re tones assignments.

I misread VX3 as the V3.........must be too much Glenfiddich whisky in my hot-toddy, for the darned winter bugs are camping in me!

Not had the opportunity to handle the V3 yet,

Woke up this morning to see the first heavy frost on the lawn, so I guess it's time to sit by the fire and catch up with all the latest detectors available.

Anyway.......BEST WISHES TO ALL, FOR AN ENJOYABLE CHRISTMAS.:buds:........KEEP WARM AND WELL.......John

I was debating getting a VX3 but was lucky enough to grab a factory certified model for the same price as a new VX3 and to my surprise the factory certified model was actually a new machine. My decision was mainly based on the accessories such as the charger and rechargeable battery pack, and the 10in DD coil which combined would have cost me about $350-400 to buy separately for a VX3. I also liked the additional settings which I may not always use but are there if I do need the extra tweaking for specific sites. One of the main complaints I heard when debating the VX3 was the tone issue, and how the V3i with adjustable tones was far better. So far I have 0 hours on it so I can't really give opinions on how it is in the field but from what I've seen and what I'm reading it looks like I made a good buy with the V3i.
