I would like to thank everybody with their help and replies to my questions about the outlaw and vaquero metal detectors. After banging my head on the walls and floors and reading a ton of reviews and emailing Tesoro, I made up my mind. I decided to get the outlaw with the eight inch coil. I will learn to use it and go from there. Thanks everybody, this is my first detector, maybe I am not to old to learn how to use it.

Tesoros are simple to use functionally- interpreting the sounds is where it's at and the knowledge will carry over into any other detector.

I think you'll like it. Get used to using it with the 8" donut. Since you're just starting out, you'll probably want to ground balance it at a "neutral" setting in all-metal, just like the Tesoro manual says. Once you're used to using it, you can experiment and learn to "power balance" it in disc mode. It'll be a little negative compared to the neutral setting in all-metal. You'll get best depth and target response that way, though it won't run as quietly as setting ground balance "by the book".

If you'll decide to do very trashy spots, consider the 5.75" for a second coil. Happy hunting! :beers:

Great choice!!!
You'll love it.
Just take your time and enjoy getting to know it.
Then later if you wish there are many coil options for it.
My favorite for trash is either my shadow super 7 (out of production but the new 7" they put on the Mojave seems to be kissing cousins with it) and the 5.75.
That being said my first Tesoro was the 8" compadre and I have no issues only running the 8" coil.
As many have said that outlaw is based off, in my humble opinion, to be the best Tesoro ever made overall the bandido II micromax.
Aside from buttons instead of switches and the audio pitch of the machine they seem identical to me.
The button isn't as hard to understand as many say it is, but honestly I wouldn't even worry about it besides using it as pinpoint if needed. But with that 8" donut, you really don't need to pinpoint, and just use the X method and you will be within that hole in the center.
I wish you the very best with your new machine and hope you find many treasures with it :)

Nice, any Tesoro is a good choice. Good you started with one that already has all the adjustments you need and won't have the urge to upgrade anytime soon or at all. My choice between the two was the vaquero for my first one. You will learn it in no time at all. Good luck with it.

Oh my favorite part of the outlaw/bandido is because it's ed120 it spreads out the rest of the spectrum.
It can knock out a dime but still beep on quarter and silver. Also can knOck out dime and quarter but still hit silver.
Pretty sweet :)
