and really understand where your coming from because i had that attitude a few years back until i realized the benefits some detectors had over others.I really think it boils down to the level of interest or knowlege or both you want to attain in this hobby and everyone has different levels. Some may only want 1 or 2 detectors and as long as they feel they have what works for them so be it.Others want to know whats on the other side from both a technical and operational standpoint. I'm more on the operational side and try to understand the technical side but find it more difficult.
If it wasn't for all the very experienced detectorists who owned and operated many different detectors we wouldn't have all the knowlegeable technical and operational opinions and various nuances that help others decide on detectors that may work better for them in their particular hunting conditions and what they are hunting for.
If your happy with a DFX i'm happy for you ,i wasn't happy with a DFX and asked many opinions about erratic operation and detector checked out OK so it was my area and i guess it didn't like my urban EMI environment, hotrocks, highly mineralized soils, buried infrastructure and modern junk all combined. It ran like crap and traded for an XLT and very happy with it..I sold or traded 6 other detectors and still have 7 that i like for various reasons.
Do i need all those detectors ,probably not,do i regret buying the ones i didn't like, "NO" because i hopefully learned something and will i try a new one sooner or later "you bet" because i wanna.
I was an avid golfer, muscle car enthusiast and loved offshore fishing and as far as i'm concerned Metal Detecting is a cheap hobby by comparison.
This isn't meant to demean your wondering why some have so many detectors but to help appreciate why many of us do. HH Bill
