The Value of Silence

hello, first of all i agree with you pap. i sit back and read these post on a daily, alot of times i get a chuckle over some of these so called pros answers.i been detecting for years also 1972,and im nowhere near a pro because of technology changes on a daily. as for the m6 is concern, when it releases ill purchase it, i dont need nor want anybodys opinion because everybodys ground is different, and what works for me may not work for you. my advice is to get your unit spend quality time with it and learn it yourself, its ok to get opinions but just remember that experience is the BEST teacher.

Come on, Tom. Get real. I know what a forum is and so do you. And what hypocrisy are you talking about yours? Hey, bud all I said was that maybe we shouldn't pass judgment based on our own preconceived likes, dislikes, or expectations before use. And even then what you or I may believe doesn't necessarily make it a fact; only an opinion.
Pap

about preconceived ideas coloring a persons judgement and opinions. I totally agree with that! As far as the M6 goes I hope to have one in my hands by next spring. If, it does in fact build on the MXTs performance in certain areas it will be an outstanding detector!

The only thing I disagreed with you on was your statement:

"Why don

I like the experts who judged it already, just by looking at its picture.I'm sure their opinion will go over big.haha

but I felt I had to stand on the proverbial soap box because I felt someone threw a shot at the DFX, and I can't for the life of me figure out why someone has to have 10 detectors when you can have one or two good ones that might last you 10 years or so. I guess as long as the public buys them up, Whites or any other company will keep pumping out new models. I will probably be shopping for a backup detector next year and I value the feedback in these forums, so I hope no one took my words personally . Ron

Wasn't anything you said, Ron. I just get a little "juiced" when someone gives the impression that their opinion is fact.
Pap

and really understand where your coming from because i had that attitude a few years back until i realized the benefits some detectors had over others.I really think it boils down to the level of interest or knowlege or both you want to attain in this hobby and everyone has different levels. Some may only want 1 or 2 detectors and as long as they feel they have what works for them so be it.Others want to know whats on the other side from both a technical and operational standpoint. I'm more on the operational side and try to understand the technical side but find it more difficult.

If it wasn't for all the very experienced detectorists who owned and operated many different detectors we wouldn't have all the knowlegeable technical and operational opinions and various nuances that help others decide on detectors that may work better for them in their particular hunting conditions and what they are hunting for.

If your happy with a DFX i'm happy for you ,i wasn't happy with a DFX and asked many opinions about erratic operation and detector checked out OK so it was my area and i guess it didn't like my urban EMI environment, hotrocks, highly mineralized soils, buried infrastructure and modern junk all combined. It ran like crap and traded for an XLT and very happy with it..I sold or traded 6 other detectors and still have 7 that i like for various reasons.

Do i need all those detectors ,probably not,do i regret buying the ones i didn't like, "NO" because i hopefully learned something and will i try a new one sooner or later "you bet" because i wanna.
I was an avid golfer, muscle car enthusiast and loved offshore fishing and as far as i'm concerned Metal Detecting is a cheap hobby by comparison.

This isn't meant to demean your wondering why some have so many detectors but to help appreciate why many of us do. HH Bill

That's odd about the hot rocks.I dug up at least one or two everytime I went out with the XLT.Even more with the Fishers, they really love them.Haven't dug one in 5 years with the DFX.DId you ever try 15kz with the DFX.That clears the EMI right up.I've hunted right under power lines with the DFX.Same ones I couldn't get within a 100 feet of with the XLT.

and i tried everything under the sun to get the DFX to settle down.I detuned the default Coins program to the point i couldn,t detect a dime at 1". I tried single frequency 15hz and 2 frequency best data and correlate, i tried everything including buying the shooter coil and 5.3 eclipse. I tried lowering VDI sens and every other sensitivity setting. Everything i tried i still was left with a detector that would not even air balance many times and the detector was checked out to be OK. I have no beef with the DFX and happy for the ones it works well for and perhaps a bit jealous, but it didn't work well where my Eagle Spectrum,XLT, IDX Pro,Sov GT, Musky etc. work fine and i know where they will become unstable. Dave it was stabilty issue thats all.I posted a while ago that i went to farm about 60 miles or so from where i live and the DFX worked great, but back home it wouldn't stabilize and many times it wouldn't air balance at default Coins program and thats the truth. I don't have it anymore and can't contemplate what to try or not i already did that.Perhaps it had a defect that wasn't diagnosed but i blamed it on where i live. HH Bill

I would go to a local dealer and have them see what the problem was.Sounds like a bad coil, but if it did it with all your coils,it must be something else.

 ( Detectorist)Hello officer, "What seems to be the problem?" (Officer) "You were speeding, I need to see your license and insurance verification".(Detectorist) "OK" (Officer) "Do you have anything in the car that I should know about?" (Detectorist) " Just my M6 that I keep in the trunk" (Officer) "Step out of the car! GET ON THE GROUND, GET ON THE GROUND!!!" (Detectorist) "But its a metal detector, not a gun!!! (I got all this in a mental image as I looked at the Matrix "M6" for the first time. Oh if only it would have been an Eagle, Patriot, American, Coinmaster, etc. But you know the name of a detector is not important and neither is the way it looks, right?
