The V3??????

New member
My experience with detectors started with the IDX Pro, the Ace 250
now Upgraded to the Ace 350 and an Old MXT. I can't imagine
using something as complicated looking as the V3.

So tell me, how easy is this critter to use? It looks several steps
above the MXT for sure. Do you think you would have found your finds
without all these features?

Like to hear about your experience with the V3 and the V3i.

I will let the newer guys tell you about their experiences. I came from an MXT and was up and running the first day. It depends on you. If you can run through a computer menu it is the same as the computer you typed your question with.

Here is my first time out.

The V series can be as simple or complicated as you want to make it. As Rob pointed out, even a first time user can have a blast with the V right out of the box. The factory programs are well thought out and if you never make an adjustment you will still marvel at what the V will find and the information it will tell you about the target in the ground. Even after you customize and tweak your V, it is still a turn on and go hunting detector if that is what you want......... or you can spend all your time making changes and not doing much hunting as some have done.

I hammered an Etrac for the last 2 years for probably 1000's of hours going out almost every day. I got my V3i in and put it together. threw the book on the table and went out. JUST understanding a VDI scale, how the basic sounds work, and pinpointing experience... I was ROCKIN in the stock coins/jewelery and common program.

In my opinion... the V3i can be as complicated as you want it to be.

I modded a few programs after that..... then I customized some colors.... then I started digging into RD and filters and etc etc etc....

...BUT, you don't have to dive into programming like Bill Gates at a tech class.....

My finds have increased over my DFX, XLT and every previous top of the line detector I've had. IMHO greater success depends on patience and understanding the V3i. Once I learned to determine the filtering I needed, properly ground balancing (and rechecking) things really picked up in a huge way. I haven't posted up my finds (yet) here just for the last week but they speak to the V's ability to handle iron, go deep and provide some unique (mixed mode stereo) audio. The highlights = I pulled 2 coppers from 1787, 1 from 1837, many flat buttons and two pieces of sterling flatware from public areas that have seen countless detectors. Take time to understand the detector and it will be your friend. You can get really fine performance from several top detectors, I just like how I can tailor the V to conditions and needs.
