... But then, so did James when the MDI story was written up. Maybe it was forgetfulness due to aging?

Yes, Tesoro made the two models for Pillar Electronics.

Yes, Larry Woolis & Roy Volker wanted them built to their design and NOT labeled to show being made by Tesoro, instead promoting them as their own design offering.

No, it was NOT similar to your Vquero.

No, it was not an 8 Reale. There were only two models produced for this short-lived company. They were: The Pillar 1 Reale, which was basically similar to the Silver Sabre Plus. It was a turn-on-and-go model with a static All Metal mode with a slow auto-tune for searching or pinpointing ... and the Pillar 4 Reale, which was essentially the 'original' Eldorado and featured an All Metal mode and the choice of auto-tuned Threshold or manual retune, and a 10-turn manual Ground Balance control. Both of these Pillar models had the more limited range discrimination like their Tesoro-branded counterparts.

A few years later Tesoro brought out the Bandido then Silver Sabre II which featured the much improved "ED-120" discriminate range which accepted more targets since it was Expanded Discrimination (ED) on the lower end to accept more smaller, low-conductive targets and have less bias toward Iron.
