The truth revealed about the YF-1 pinpointer details inside....

When I first started detecting in 1984 there were no pinpointers. Then in the early 90's I think I first started hearing about the Tinytec. I though "only a newbie needs on of those" I was in my zone just waving soil over my coil. Then I thought heck - I'll build my own probes. I'm not going to spend $80.00 on one of those gadgets I really don't need. So I built my own. I even built several and sold them. Anyway as I used the probe I kinda liked it. No more searching for that coin that plays hide a seek. You know the ones that flatten themselves to the side of the holes! I'll get you my pretty and your silver too! I've used the probes for about 9 years now. I really feel like I can't go hunting without it.
What's all this talk about this SunRay probe stuff. Who wants to add any more weight to their detector? I even said that in a post here. I thought hey I'm not giving the YF-1 even a chance. So I ordered one about 3 weeks ago. I thought I would put this contraption on my detector and expose this probe for the phony it was. Hey wait a minute this thingy looks pretty good. No it ain't going to even beep. Hey it beeps! Oh yeah an air test -right.... Let's get this thing a little dirty and watch it lay down like my old dog on the porch. I headed for my yard where there is a lot of tabs I've been clearing out. I just set the 250 to all metal and with one swing there it was - foil. Yeah baby this can't pick up no foil. I waved the probe in the grass and BANG - BEEP. I thought well I'll part the grass. Hey it's right on the ground! I plucked it up and thought to myself. Hey this little thing just kept me from digging a plug. Now that's saving me time. I have went on to quickly recover targets for the past 3 weeks. This is a great tool. Yes, it's better than the ones I built. I didn't want to say that because it hurt a little.
I just leave my detector in the disc mode to recover targets. But there are some very small targets that when you open the hole there is no signal. So as some of you know I added a pinpoint trigger to my 250 a long time ago. I just flip it on and probe away in the pinpoint mode. If you just position the detector up in front of you then pushing the thumb button won't be so bad. Sometimes the threshold automatically adjusts and gets real loud. I just re click the switch and it re tunes again pretty quiet. I also wear carpenters pants and shorts. You know the ones with the tool pocket on the outside of the right leg. That's where I keep the probe while detecting. I have been leaving the probe on the detector also and where I clip it on seems to balance the detector better than stock - I know it sounds crazy. I use just one clip right at the front of the arm cuff. Then I clip the probe in it with the wire sticking out the back. This shifts most of the probe weight to the very back.
I know that I rambled on but if you have a chance to give the SunRay probes a fair shake I think you'll like it.
Disclaimer: I am not a paid spokes person for SunRay probes. Nor do I receive any compensation for endorsing said product. But if the price is right I can change my mind! LOL!

YEah you couldn't have run fast enough to give me a probe until I offered to field test the Sun Ray and found out what a great gadget it is. You can use it for a detector and hunt up close to metal playground equipment and also find shallow coins in nests of pulltabs and other junk. Since it is a motion detector, if you whip it over the target it goes deeper than advertised. You can check this out with an air test.
